Nokia N8 UK pricing revealedYesterday we brought you news that the Nokia N8 is set for dispatch on the 23rd of September, but it now looks like UK SIM-free pricing and full details are set to go live on the Nokia website. To find out more, read on after the cut...

Ever since the Nokia N8 was first announced earlier this year, we've been eagerly awaiting a review sample. As we reported yesterday, that wait could be about to come to an end, with the official release of the Nokia N8 expected during Nokia World later this month. In the meantime, it looks like pricing is set to be announced on Nokia's very own website.

How do we know? Eagle eyed NokNok reader Ram got in touch to point out some interesting code on Nokia's website. Our original story came from the fact the Nokia N8 was finally appearing at the top of the Google listings, complete with full details of the Nokia N8 on Nokia Online.

Check out the Nokia N8 on Facebook

Look in the source code, however, and there are a few juicy details hidden in the code that don't yet appear on the web page, and it seems like only a matter of time before they go live.

The most interesting bit is the presence of SIM-free pricing, with the following code in place: “buynow-429simfree.png\" alt=\"£429 SIM free”. It looks like the Nokia N8 will cost £429 (inc. VAT), then, the same price as Play.com have the N8 listed for.

Will you still be buying the Nokia N8 if it does indeed cost £429? It's looking increasingly like you could have your hands on one by the end of the month. Leave a comment below and let us know.

i will never ever buy nokia products,n97 is enough

  • Andrew

If the price does end up being £429 inclusive, NO WAY! It’s £382 inclusive of sales tax on the French Nokia site. There’s no way I’ll buy one for my wife in the UK if Nokia insist on marking the price up by over 12% compared to mainland EU.

  • vynz

    huwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat!! thats costly!

  • andy burgin

Nokia first said the N8 would cost £320 sim free an how are they going to succede with the price increased by £100 or more, people will now be not buying the N8 straight away an wait to the price drops,an before i buy any mobile i like to read a review about the mobile i want to buy,an definetly want to see an read a review about the N8 before i splash my cash out, just hope Nokia have not let its customers down again

  • Mario

if it is indeed that much they may have just shot themselves in the foot. That kind of price get you a HTC desire, possibly a HTC Desire HD. and for a hundred more you get a decent DSLR. Are they seriously expecting us to believe electronic goods are now cheaper on the mainland. Oh well, thought it was too good to be true.

  • Nick

    @andy burgin

They\’ve said no such thing. Nokia\’s PR prices are always, ALWAYS pre-tax. The increased VAT in the UK certainly isn\’t helping v_v

  • Andrew

The originally announced price for the N8 was €370, French VAT is 19.6%, so that equates to €442.50. It’s currently on pre-order at €459 on the French Nokia website, a modest increase of €16.50 (about 3%) on the original estimate.

What gripes me, if this £429 price is correct, is that the announced price plus UK VAT was £362, so how do they justify the massive 18% difference for us in the UK, especially since the Euro has weakened against the Pound since April. That £429 equates to about €515 including VAT, an extra €56!

They must know UK consumers to be complete mugs, like Apple I suppose?

  • Stylinred

I think we’ve always known the price to be around this considering UK Retailers have set their pre-orders at this price (clove tech, handtec, expansys, play, etc)

The price announced by Nokia was always an estimate excluding VAT the price seems accurate however their UK pricing should really reflect their EU pricing

There’s no reason residents of the UK will order within the UK when they can so very easily order from France etc

The N8 costs $550 in the USA which is £357 excluding VAT which is accurate

  • Charlie

Mobilefun in the UK are showing the N8 for £399.95 (or €480).

  • Charlie

Meant to add, the Mobilefun price includes VAT and their price virtually matches that of Nokia Germany and Nokia Netherlands as both these sites are showing the N8 for €479.

Nokia Spain and Nokia Italy are showing the N8 for €469.

While Nokia France is the cheapest, showing a price of €459.

Clearly there is some regional differences/movement on price but nothing as dramatic as quoted by this article which suggests either this article is wrong or if it’s true then Nokia have some cheek fleecing the UK consumer for such an amount which may prove too high a bar to get Nokia back in the game over here in Blighty. I hope this article is wrong and the price is no higher than £400/€480.

  • Sponge

Well that’s disappointing. I was very interested in this phone, especially as I was led to believe it would be in the region of £370. If it does turn out to be £429 then it’s wrong side of £400 and too close to other phones like the Desire. Sorry Nokia, but I won’t be buying the N8 at that price.

£429 does not sound bad at all. When the Nokia N97 came out here in South Africa it cost roughly £700. We do normally pay more here for tech so £429 sounds really cheap.

  • David

Play.com currently have the N8 listed at £419.99… not £429

  • Andrew

Just had a quick look around and the Samsung Galaxy s can be bought for £429 sim free in the UK. Is there anybody here who would challenge my assertion that the Galaxy S offers significantly more advanced hardware than the Nokia N8 and an operating system which is considered to be at the high end of the smart phone eco-system rather than Symbian 3′s bread and butter position?

Let’s face it, Nokia are foolish if they think the N8 can compete with the likes of whatever replaces the HTC Desire, the iPhone 4, new Galaxy S etc. It’s way behind them on both specification and OS. In the UK, it will need to be pitched at less than £300 or free on a £20 unlimited data contract to sell in the sort of volumes they appear to want from it. The problem is at that price, it starts bumping into plenty of other Nokia offerings…

Fine, in a game of top trumps against the current crop of top flight phones the N8 wins on camera megapixels, but it looses virtually everywhere else on the specification front. In fact, can we have a serious conversation about which phones specifically the N8 is going up against this Autumn instead of just harping on about the 12 mpix camera like it’s the only thing that matters to phone buyers?

Been looking at HTC Desire to replace my nearly 3 year old Nokia N95 – so I waited after the N8 announcement – and waited – and I\\\’m still waiting. Despite the lousy reviews, I thought \\\’Symbian is more efficient and doesn\\\’t need the extra chip speed – it has a GPU, fantastic camera, free Nokia maps that beats Google maps because they can be downloaded to the device avoiding the need for an internet connection, etc, etc. BUT – I decided to wait and see what the reviews are like when it is released. However, IF the price is over £400 for what is effectively an \\\’old\\\’ spec in lots of ways (despite the 12mpixel camera which is probably state of the art), I will struggle to be able to justify this sort of cost to myself. As a long time Nokia fan who thinks the N95 has been a fantastic phone for me – brilliant 5mpixel camera, Audible books player, super stereo speakers, BBC iplayer, maps, gps, great podcast catcher, gmail and google calendar syncing – i have installed the lot. BUT – this may be the parting of the ways …

Hmmm… seems like Nokia has priced itself out of the competition.

Probably shouldn\’t get this, unless you can get a good discount with a 2-year contract. Or wait till 6 months later, after the inevitable software/firmware updates and price reduction. Who knows, there may be better phones, Nokia or non-Nokia, by Q2 2011. *Samsung Galaxy S2? IPhone 5?*

If you need a similar specced Nokia phone that is slightly cheaper, I suggest waiting for the Nokia C7. In fact, I personally may go for the C7 over the N8. I can do without HDMI or that extra 4 megapixels of Carl Zeiss camera. Not going to splurge too much money on a Symbian^3 device, knowing that the N8 is likely to be the last of the N series phone running on Symbian.

  • MacAdams

Anything above £350 is too much for the N8, even before this launch it was never a high end smart-phone, take out the camera and everything else is mid-range, never saw the big deal in the first place, Symbian 3 still looks clunky, the widget system is a data hungry mess. If you have the money to spend £429 on an N8, then you’re better off spending a little bit extra and going for the Samsung Galaxy S, HTC Desire/Incredible, or the iPhone 4. Personally I’m going to wait and see how the N9 running Meego turns out, as I’m not really bothered about a camera, I just need a smartphone that is a breeze to use and has a super stable OS with large developer support, and right now thats a straight choice between iPhone and Android
