Wikipedia is still the butt of jokes about its supposed inaccuracy, but the fact is it is a great resource with detailed and well maintained entries on over 16 million subjects. If you need to look something up quickly, Wikipedia Reader makes doing so from your phone much faster than fiddling with the web interface.

Chemistry lessons will go a lot more smoothly with this great looking app that shows the periodic table of elements. Tap each element on the table to pop up the full name and atomic number. Very simple, but very useful if you need to know your promethium from your plutonium.

The jury is still out on how effective 'brain training' is for improving mental performance (actually, I think the jury has pretty much decided they don't really help, but there is one guy still claiming otherwise in a 12-Angry-Men scenario) but even if it doesn't help improve your mental agility, Brain Performance 3 is still a fun collection of puzzles that will prove distracting in a boring lesson.
