The Nokia X3 Touch and Type was a bit of a shock when it was launched a few weeks ago, but it was received particularly well by press and public alike. We managed to get our hands on one this morning at Nokia World 2010, and the Nokia X3 Touch and Type impresses just as much in the hand as it does in the photos. Join us after the break to find out more…
Out of all the Nokia handsets we’ve seen in the past few months, the Nokia X3 Touch and Type is one of the most impressive, mixing Nokia’s excellent abilities to produce highly usable yet affordable smartphones, with a neat design and touchscreen display.
It’s the first Nokia handset to feature both a touchscreen and a regular alpha-numeric keypad, and the results are excellent. The touchscreen display is easily responsive enough for simple navigation, and also comes in useful when browsing the web.
The keys feature an unusual layout – with four vertical lines – but it works well. The keys are firmly attached, and it’s much easier to type at speed on this keyboard than it is a regular touchscreen.
Build quality is reasonable, but as an affordable handset it lacks the wow-factor of the Nokia N8. Plastics are used in place of the Nokia N8’s anodised aluminium casing, although the Nokia X3 Touch and Type does get a metal casing on the rear.
On first impressions, we’re particularly taken with the Nokia X3 Touch and Type. Comfortable, well designed and smart, it could well be the handset of choice if you want both a touchscreen and a regular keyboard. Hopefully we'll be getting our hands on a review sample after Nokia World is over, so check back here in the next couple of weeks.
