Nokia E7 Hands-On Preview (Photo Heavy)

nokia-e7-3The Nokia E7 is the modern-day Nokia communicator, so when the Executive Vice President of Mobile Solutions at Nokia – Anssi Vanjoki – pointed out that “it’s BIG”, we were a little concerned that it would be a bit of a brick. No such thing, however, as it’s one of the neatest smartphones we’ve seen to date. Join us after the break to find out all about it...

In the hand, the Nokia E7 feels remarkably similar to the Nokia N8, with which it shares its styling. Here, however, there’s a slide and tilting display as well, leaving a large QWERTY keyboard below.

The overall functionality is shared with the Nokia N97 Mini – which the slide and tilting keyboard is similar to. The touchscreen offers great usability when you’re just sending text messages – with the onscreen keyboard switching between T9 text prediction when in portrait mode, and full QWERTY when in landscape.

As with the N97 Mini, the Nokia E7 also offers excellent usability when you’re sending emails, and Nokia claims its device is a full mobile office. A tie up with Microsoft even means you’ll be able to edit Powerpoint files on the move.

So far, so good then. We’ll be bringing you a more in-depth look at the Nokia E7 later this week, but in the meantime check out our hand-on photo gallery below:

tell me they’re joking about no micro sd slot

  • Stoli89

I would imagine the thin slide out QWERTY required certain space compromises. The MicroSDHC might be an easy one to let go considering the phone is capable of USB On the Go. Note, it comes with a hefty amount of internal memory…so this makes reasonable sense. This is not an Apple (no MicroSDHC nor USB OTG), nor HTC (no USB OTG), so it probably is AOK for the business user quite familiar with USB flash mem.

No micro SD. You know, until you pointed this out I hadn’t noticed. Thanks Lee. This could easily be a deal breaker for some, me included. Perhaps Nokia should quickly consider upping the internal memory to 32GB? I suppose they are banking that the USB-on-the-go feature will counter the need for internal mass storage expansion. Personally, I use my phone for pretty much everything these days including a media player, so lack of storage on the E7 would be a big drawback for me despite it’s obvious attractions. The lack of storage also makes the not too shabby camera and HD video recording feature less exciting with worries about running out of space and then having to manage external storage.

This decision between the N8 and E7 gets harder every hour!

How is it possible not to have a sd slot with such a great device? I can not believe it.
