Want to learn some continental lingo? Help is at hand with Dictiomania East European - a free Ovi Store game to help you learn Hungarian, Romanian or Russian. But is it actually helpful? Or will it leave you tongue tied abroad. Read our Dictiomania East European review to find out.
Dictiomania East European comprises a series of quickfire quizzes designed with the aim of teaching you Hungarian, Romanian and Russian. And with varying difficulty settings and game modes promised, we had high hopes for improved linguistic skills.
Unfortunately it took just one session for those to be dashed. Diving into the game for the first time things appear promising, until you start playing. Seeing as Dictiomania East European is a language based quiz game we were hoping for intuitive tasks designed to help us gradually learn a any of the languages on offer. Instead Dictiomania East European amounts to a guessing game.
A word appears at the top of the screen - you have to guess what that word means from the four choices listed below. Tapping on the correct answer sounds a ping, get it wrong and the correct answer is highlighted. That's it, throughout. You don't even get to hear how the word is pronounced - a feature we reckon would be rather handy, we imagine.
Different modes include Beginner, Advanced, Challenging and Master, the latter is locked to start with. Once you've selected your chosen difficulty, you can decide whether to plump for a 10, 25, 50 question quiz, or a time attack mode where you answer as many questions as possible within three minutes. You'll be bored before you get past one. And you still wouldn't have learnt a thing.
If you're looking to learn a new language we'd suggest you look elsewhere. Dictiomania East European attempts to help you learn new languages while having fun, but unfortunately you won't be doing either.
