nokia-e7-vs-nokia-n8-2The launch of the Nokia E7 at Nokia World last week gave us the opportunity to put Nokia's new handset up against an existing model – the Nokia N97 Mini. They have similar form factors, but couldn't be more different in style, so it's an interesting head-to-head. Join us after the break to find out how the Nokia E7 gets on...

The Nokia E7 is the latest touchscreen device with a sliding QWERTY keyboard,  following in the footsteps of the Nokia N97 Mini. Put the devices up against each other, and the most obvious thing is the additional size of the Nokia E7. It's a lot larger than the Nokia N97 Mini – with a 4-inch screen rather than a 3.2-inch panel.

It's also a lot thinner, however, so doesn't feel anywhere near as big as it actually is. The slim dimensions also means the Nokia E7 fits easily into pockets, and it's almost difficult to believe that there's enough space for a full sliding keypad as well.

Nokia E7: The key specs!

Quality wise, we've always liked the Nokia N97 Mini, but the Nokia E7 moves the game on. While the N97 Mini uses touches of aluminium, and is very robust, the Nokia E7 is made out of anodised aluminium – as with the Nokia N8. It's one of the toughest smartphones we've seen to date, and also has a premium and tactile feel.

The keys on the Nokia E7's QWERTY keyboard are slightly larger than those on the older handset. This makes it the easier smartphone to type on, making it ideally suited to emails and messaging. With the ability to edit Powerpoint presentations on the Nokia E7, it's also perfect for out of office use.

We'll be comparing the specs on the two phones later in the week, but already we're very excited about the latest addition to Nokia's lineup. With stunning quality, a great design and an equally impressive form factor, there's a lot to like about the Nokia E7.

Rumour has it there are 64 and 32gb versions of e7 planned for dec/jan

  • Andrew

    @ Jingo

That would be a sensible move, given the lack of a MicroSD slot for storage expansion in the E7.

  • Leo

That’s great. 16gb is just not realistic with the e7

  • Mike

Even 16 GB of stuff in the phone should be sufficient, given that the presentation on the Nokia site says you can plug a USB key into it… I’m waiting anxiously to see if you can connect an external Bluetooth (or USB?) keyboard to it! If so, then there’s the next travel tool for me.

Can any one tell me if it is possible to store telephone numbers in the standard international form ie with spaces and brackets on the E7.Not possible with many Nokias including E90?

  • Ricardo Almeida

I think you should compare with the N97, not the N97 Mini.

  • Jingo

I never understand these idiots who say that 16gb is sufficient if it is for you then shut up…. For the real business man and global transports who need memory to store media then e need more internal storage of 32 64 128gb models. I would happily pay over £ 1000 for a 128gb e7. It does need a micro sd slot

Timely and interesting article, but your \"form factor\" needs work. Learn to pare down your writing. Choose plain English, and avoid trendy \"management speak\" words :

    \"gave us the opportunity to\" — \"let us\"
\"against an existing model, the N97\" — \"against the N97\" (of course it exists)
    \"additional size\" — \"larger size\"
    \"as big as it actually is\" — \"as big as it is\"
    \"enough space for a full sliding keyboard as well\" — \"enough space for a full sliding keyboard\"

With the extra space, you won\’t have to skip pronouns (\"however, [it] so doesn\’t feel\") and leave us wondering whether you\’ve had too little schooling, or too much cable tv.

You seriously need to find something better to do with your time…or should I pare that down to:
    “get a life!”
