N900 vs Palm Pre in Smartphone Championship While newer Nokia handsets take all the attention, a more experienced favourite - the Nokia N900 - has been taking on all-comers in one mobile phone website's mock up smartphone championship, beating the likes of the HTC HD2 and the BlackBerry Storm 2. Now it's up against the Palm Pre. And it may just win.

Eager to crown one mobile as the best in its own Smartphone Championship, website, Fonearena has set up an online competition letting readers vote for the best Smartphones.

Having beaten off the competition so far, the Nokia N900 is now up against the Palm Pre. Both devices offer enough memory and features for the average user, including capable cameras, a great display, GPS and compatibility with a wide range of music and video formats.

As we write this the N900 is trailing slightly, but here's a few reasons why it deserves to win:

Super storage

As impressive as the Palm Pre is it lucks out in the storage stakes, with just 8GB of internal storage it trails quite a lot in comparison to the 32GB of the N900.

Corking camera

The N900's 5-megapixel camera might look like its found wanting in comparison to the N8's 12-megapixel offering, but it still performs admirably well. Megapixel counters among you will find just three on the Palm Pre.

Screen supremacy

Video looks great on both devices, but even better on N900, with its 800x480 touchscreen in comparison to the 480x320 Palm Pre.

Radio Star

You can download and listen to your favourite music on both handsets, but if you've worn out your music collection on the N900, it has a stereo with FM transmitter to help you discover more tunes.

If you think the Nokia N900 deserves to advance to the next round you can have your say by voting over at Fonearena at the link below.

The N900 is currently losing to the Palm Pre?!?…WTF!!!!

  • Andrew

Yes, the N900 is currently behind despite starting out with a magnificent lead. The Pre piled in about a thousand votes overnight as the USA Palm Pre user base flexed their muscle.

C’mon all you Nokia fans, hurry over to Fonearena and cast your vote for the N900 before the poll closes, it’s not too late to win this!

Please get your facts straight: the Palm Pre DOES do video recording, with editing directly on the device. Despite its lower megapixel rating (which has nothing to do with image quality), the Palm Pre snaps excellent pictures, particularly outdoors.

THere are a couple of things wrong with this write up:

The article states that the Palm Pre only has 8GB of memory. While this is technically correct the Pre Plus has 16GB. Still not the 32 that comes with the N900… but let\’s be accurate here.

It was also stated that the \"Pre doesn’t ‘do’ video recording.\" With a recent software update the Palm Pre and Pre Plus can now shoot video as well as still photos.

While the N900 has an FM radio built in you can easily download the Pandora App (for free) and listen to customizable playlists much like an MP3 player offers.

I know I’m picking nits but if you’re going to do a head to head then let’s try to be as unbiased as possible to give each reader a chance to make up their own mind.

The Pre has done video recording since February. Get it right. Its a better phone that’s why it’s ahead. The Nokia is super but hasn’t been developed.

  • Dill

Uhh… The Pre has had vid for quite a while now- read a more recent spec sheet. Also- The only thing sucky about the pre is the hardware. no phone can come close to the elegant OS (maybe iPhone4).

  • Andrew

Hey guys, the N900 won this. We’re extremely grateful to every Nokian who took the trouble to nip over to FoneArena to vote for the N900.

We’re in the final now! Please vote for the N900 again when the final starts. This may only be a couple of days away, so keep checking. You only have two days from the start of the poll to cast your vote(s) so when you see it’s open, do like the Mugabe voters: Vote early and vote often!

If talking about OS, no phone is better than webOS so far.
What a pity that still too many users worldwide has no chance to try. -_-
