Nokia C6-01: All the official shots! The Nokia 5230 has proved an incredibly popular smartphone, following in the footsteps of the big-selling Nokia 5800. It's getting on a bit now though, which is why we've been looking for a successor. We think the Nokia C6-01 may just be it. Read on after the break to find out why...

The Nokia C6-01 has the potential to be one of the biggest selling Nokia handsets, with a brand new Symbian ^3 operating system and a reasonable price tag.

As with the Nokia 5800 and Nokia 5230, there's a 3.2-inch screen, but this time it's a capacitive panel, also packing in AMOLED technology.

Storage space may be limited to 340MB of internal memory, but this helps to keep costs down, and you'll also be able to upgrade to 32GB via microSD card.

The software also impresses. Symbian ^3 is quick, polished and a lot more advanced than the S60 5th Edition OS found on current touchscreen Nokia devices.

It's the Nokia C6-01 as a package that impresses us the most, however. Compact, stylish and well made, we can easily imagine it becoming one of Nokia's most popular smartphones ever.

Not really a fair comparison…the C6-01 may be a mid-tier or even value positioned smart phone, but its depth of features at its price point more than rival the 5800XM at its own point in history. It can run heavy graphics with ease, is fully Qt compatible, has HD video, and has wifi b/g/n, Bluetooth 3.0, and 3.5G. In addition, the camera is an 8MP EDoF with LED. Though the display is only 3.2 in, its a CBD AMOLED capacitive. It’s a quantum step above the 5230. Would not be surprised if it surpasses the 5800 and 5230 volumes, combined.

Great hardware but UI of Symbian^3 lets it down; outdated, bland, and…frankly ….boring compared to the inimitable Android smartphones from HTC and Samsung with their proprietary UIs. You can guess now what my next smartphone going to be…

Definitely more of a 5800 replacement than 5230. Nokia just released the 5250 a little while back also as the replacement for the 5230 though IMHO the 5230 is still better than the 5250.

@ Rachid B – Up against Android phones like the HTC Wildfire in the same price bracket, I’d much rather have the Nokia, easily. Larger screen (3 times bigger in pixel terms), faster, more RAM, better wifi (802.11n compatibility so you don’t have to run two networks still for g devices), Pentaband 3G, better battery life, better maps, better camera, better software…just better all round.

This is going to come in at the sub-£200 PAYG mark or £15-20 contract. It’s not up against HTC Desires or other high end phones.
