Remember the Nokia Morph concept? The Nokia Morph was a flexible concept phone designed to demonstrate the amazing possibilities of nanotechnology in mobile devices. The concept videos alone have millions of YouTube views. Nokia has now showed off the technology that could turn it into reality. It's exciting stuff. Read on for a video demonstration...
The folks at Nokia Conversations paid a visit to Nokia Research Center, based in Cambridge, where among grabbing a close look at nanowire technology, they also got to see something that could change the face of technology. Not just for mobile phones, either, as the Stretchable electronic skin could change technology as we know it.
Using evaporated gold as a conduct, the team at Cambridge have been able to create a stretchable electronic touchpad, able to stretch by up to 20 per cent of its original length without affecting performance.
It is hoped that the new tech could be used one day in electronic wearable devices, or enable technology to be part of our clothing.
Check out the video below to see how easily it can stretch over skin, before assuming its natural shape. It's the stuff of science-ficton-esque dreams. With the rapid developments in mobile phones over the last five years, who knows, we may see 'electronic skin' sooner than we think.
