Ovi Store App: eBuddy Review

ebuddy-review-fronteBuddy has been around for a few years now, but it's now available through the Ovi Store. This app lets you combine all of your mates from social networking services such as Facebook or Twitter, and lets you chat with them. Read on to find out if it's any good...

Most of eBuddy is taken up by a large set of menu buttons on the bottom half of the screen. These let you navigate the application, but also eat into usable space onscreen.

The first thing you'll need to do is to create an eBuddy account. This is simple, quick and free, and once you've done that you can add the accounts you want to use – including MSN, Yahoo!, AIM, Gtalk, MySpace, ICQ, Facebook and Hyves.

Unlike most social networking apps, eBuddy actually tells you which of your mates are online, and lets you talk to them via instant messaging. You can change your own status, appearing online or offline – so it's also easy for your mates to contact you. It's easy to do, and it works well.

It's also easy to customise the look of eBuddy – changing the colours, for instance, or the way you're notified of incoming messages.

On the downside, some of the onscreen buttons are tiny, and are very fiddly to use. eBuddy is also slightly unintuitive, and feels more aftermarket than Nokia's integrated Facebook app, for instance.

Still, if you prefer to chat to your online mates – rather than just checking status updates or looking at photos – it's worth having a play with eBuddy.

am sorry dude, but didn’t u notice than you can remove the cursors, and buttons from Settings– app manager?
and you can use ebuddy as a full touch app, yes its button are still tinny but way better than with the cursor
i have been using this app since version 0.8 and it’s now 2.1 and it’s the best when it comes to low data low speed WAP services, but like everything they had to screw things, now we can not connect directly to facebook chat!!!

@Sandman – thanks for that, I didn’t see the option. I’ll have another look and amend the review accordingly.

It would definitely be a nicer app to look at without the cursor arrangement filling half the screen!
