Who needs those red-headed Angry Birds when you've got catapulting penguins? Crazy Penguin Catapult puts an army of flying penguins at your disposal in an attempt to fend off a polar bear invasion. Is Crazy Penguin Catapult too cool for school? Read our review to find out.
A scourge of polar bears have kidnapped one of your penguin chums and have invaded and it's down to you and you, armed with a catapult to launch penguins on their way to bear-free freedom.
At the beginning of each level penguins are shown dangling above a catapult ready for launch into the icy battlefield. To launch them simply swipe on the screen in the direction, and at the precise time you want to launch them. The aim is to get as many into the field as possible. So land 5 in and your ammunition will be five penguins, and so on.
Into the field proper, this is where the high-flying action really takes place. Polar bears are placed at different locations on the battlefield. To knock them out time your finger swipe at the exact moment you want to change your penguin's flight trajectory. You can aim straight at a bear or attempt to bounce your penguin off the walls, ice and rocks to notch combos.
In gameplay that will be somewhat familiar to Angry Birds fans, Penguin Catapault carries it off rather well, though it doesn't feel quite addictive here. It certainly is a challenge. As you progress and make your way through the level-filled map the levels get much harder as you find yourself having to fend off an increasing number of polar bears, sometimes with even less penguin-shaped ammo to tax things a little further.
Overall Crazy Penguin Catapult is a fun little game that once you get into is still a little harder to put down than some Ovi Store games, including the previously reviewed Crazy Penguin Party. It's genuinely challenging, and while we wouldn't quite call it addictive, it's certainly worth a download, especially as it's just been made available for free.
