OK, so Angry Birds Lite is a game, rather than a useful app, but it's that addictive that we wanted an excuse to carry on playing it, so what better way than a review! Join us after the break to find out more about Angry Birds, and to see the pics of it in action...
Let's get one thing out of the way first – Angry Birds Lite is brilliant, a genuine five star app. At present, it needs more levels, but we're still unable to put it down.
Angry Birds has appeared on other platforms – the Nokia N900, and the Apple iPhone – so it seemed like only a matter of time before it made an appearance on Symbian. And if you've got a Nokia N8, with the new Symbian ^3 operating system, you're in for a treat.
The premise of the game is to help the angry birds (angry because the green pigs have stolen their eggs) attack the pigs, and get their eggs back. Although simple, it's graphically great – similar in style to Worms – and is truly addictive.
You control a catapult that launches the birds towards the pigs. Stretch it back, adjust the angle and let go to fling! The levels get more and more complex, and you'll find different types of bird that also react differently – speeding up to screen taps, for instance.
On the Nokia N8, it's responsive and fluid, helped by the capacitive screen. There's no sign at all of lag when playing the game, and it's easy to scroll across the landscape with a flick of a finger.
All-in-all, then, a fantastic effort. We just can't wait for more levels!
