With the impressive Nokia N8 now available to buy, and the Nokia C7 available for pre-order, developers are lining up to release new apps for the Symbian ^3 operating system. Swype is the latest set to appear, making it easier to type at speed. Join us after the cut to find out more...

Swype is an innovative app that's set to let you enter text on your touchscreen Nokia – the Nokia N8 and Nokia C7 in this case – using a new method.

Nokia N8 review: Keyboard, Texting, Emails

Instead of pressing the buttons individually, you swipe (geddit?) your finger across the keyboard in a single fluid motion, with speeds up up to 40 words a minute apparently achievable for most people.

Swype isn't a new app – it's been available for Symbian S60 5th Edition for a short while – but it's soon to be available for Symbian ^3. We're fans of the existing touchscreen keyboard on the Nokia N8, but we'll be trying out Swype soon, and letting you know how we get on.

Can you please write a little about HOW Swype works? I have never understanded how the app can recognize words by just swyping over allot of letters…

It says that is available for S50 5th, but on Ovi store it says it’s not available for 5800. Is there for the 5800 model?

Couldn’t get Swype from OVI to work on my new N8 so I download SlideIT keyboard from the OVI instead. SlideIT is awesome once you get the hang of it. Definitely a faster way to input text. I’m using it to write this post.
