If you're a Nokia fan, there's a good chance you've already stumbled upon Dot: The World's Smallest Stop Motion Animation Character, or The Commuter – both filmed using the Nokia N8's HD camera. The results are stunning, but we wondered what the average person would be capable of filming using the Nokia N8. As such, we risked life, limb and hypothermia and took our review handset rallying. Join us after the break to see the results...
After seeing The Commuter and Dot: The World's Smallest Stop Motion Animation Character (and if you haven't checked these out already, it's really worth doing), we wanted to make our own film using the Nokia N8.
Check out Dot: The World's Smallest Stop Motion Animation Character
We thought that taking it along to a nearby rally would be a good idea, as not only is the lighting variable, the content moves at high speed and there are loads of noises to record: Perfect for testing the Nokia N8 to its limits!
Naturally, we suffered from lens envy when standing next to the hardened rally fans, with their 500mm £3000 lenses, digital SLRs and a range of kit we've never heard of. All we had was a Nokia N8...
Watch The Commuter - a film featuring Dev Patel, Pammy Anderson and loads more
After seeing the results of our video below (OK, OK, it may not win awards for composition or creativity, but we did nearly get run over on several occasions!), we're actually glad we left the proper camera at home. The Nokia N8 more than sufficed for filming, and as you can see (or hear) the integrated microphone also does a brilliant job of picking up sounds.
Video is often pin sharp and great to watch, although it does get a bit grainy in the later hours. Then again, we could hardly see our feet at the time, so the Nokia N8 really does do a top job. We doubt our gadget-laden contemporaries managed much better results, in fact, and they couldn't pack 20kg of kit into their back pocket, make a telephone call on it afterwards, or use it to navigate home!
Either way, check out the video below and let us know what you think. Better yet, get out there and make your own Nokia N8 film, and send us a link to the results. We'd love to see more films.
