Nokia N8: How to change the time and set up an alarm

If you’re new to the Nokia N8, you’ll still be getting to grips with the Symbian ^3 operating system. Thankfully, it’s a lot more simple than you may think, especially once you get the hang of it. Join us after the break, where we take a look at how to set the clock, and how to adjust the alarm…

The clock is the first thing you’ll want to change when you get your Nokia N8 charged and running, as the chances are it’ll be the wrong time. This can be done in seconds, however, and is easy to do.

Your Nokia N8 will already have a date/time widget set up on one of the multiple home screens. Tap the little clock icon to get going.

This brings up the clock app, to change the time simply press Options, Settings and then enter the new time/date. Click on Back once you’ve done this. You can change the clock from analogue to digital by tapping the clock icon on the left side of the screen.

Nokia N8 Symbian ^3: Everything you need to know

To set up an alarm, again you want to be running the clock app, so if it’s gone back to your home screen tap the clock widget again. Then click New Alarm. Enter the time, and if you want it repeated – every day, for instance, or just at weekends, then enter that below. You’ll be able to set as many alarms as you want – either singular ones or repeated alarms – just press New Alarm to keep adding.

If there’s anything else you want to know about the Nokia N8, then head over to our Nokia N8 Symbian ^3: Everything you need to know page. We’re adding several tutorials a week, along with answering any of your questions, so if you’re confused about how to do something, then check out our guide and leave a comment.

Does it still have that annoying confirmation message (\\"alarm set\\") as in previous symbian? Same as when you change the profile activate BT and almost any action you perform on symbian.

Hey Sue. I’m not sure if PC Suite and Ovi are directly compatible. Do you know anybody else with a Nokia handset that you could ask to borrow? If so, you could sync your details to that using PC Suite, and then sync the details from the other phone once again using Ovi. Then sync with your N8…

Obviously that’s a long way of doing things, there may be an easier way. Anybody have any other suggestions if not?

Hi! Have just bought home my new N8 & tried to do the download /backup from Nokia Suite which holds all the data from my old N97 Mini – says it won\’t recognise the N8 and that I have to use Ovi – but I never have backed the old phone (which is dead) up on Ovi. What can I do?????

@William. A fair point, if it were difficult to do. However, it’s as easy as pressing a couple of icons – as you can see above. Still, not everybody is accustomed to technology, and it’s not like anything comes with a comprehensive instruction manual anymore.

We’re just putting together a guide for EVERYTHING, simple, medium level or complex. Even if it only includes two buttons, we’d still like to inform our readers which two buttons they are, and the fact that so many people have checked out this page is testament to people wanting advice on how to set up their new phones.

The topic shouldn’t be a questions on any device, even Symbian powered.
