From minimal and recycled packaging, to materials that can also be recycled, Nokia really goes the extra mile when it comes to making environmentally friendly products.

During two music festivals this year, Nokia stayed true to its roots and ran recycling campaigns for old and unwanted phones and chargers – irrespective of brands.

Nokia also committed to plant one tree for ever 20 devices collected during the campaign, further making a difference to the environment.

Tania Steenkamp, Communications Manager for Nokia South Africa stated:

“During the festivals, we had a good response and a number of people donated their old devices and accessories for recycling.”

She went on to say:

“In keeping with our commitment made prior to the festivals we will be purchasing and planting trees in both regions to assist in reducing the carbon footprint created by such an event.”

In all, over 250 handsets were handed over, adding to the 500 devices previously collected in similar campaigns.

Nokia has also gone one step further than its promise, more than doubling the amount of trees, with 350 trees planted in total.
