Xival is a sharpshooting free Ovi Store game for Nokia handsets putting players timing and shooting skills to the test. Does it hit the target? Read our Xival Sniper review to find out.
A bevy of new mobile games have arrived on the Ovi Store. Xival Sniper is one of the latest pocket-friendly time-sappers to hit the virtual vendor. It's a simple affair. Your aim is to shoot the moving targets by tapping a fire button on your Nok's touchscreen to notch the highest score possible.
As the targets move from left to right in a firing-range style layout timing is key to getting the best ranking in quick-time. Firing your firearm (it's more of a pistol than a sniper rifle) is as easy as tapping the 'gun shot' button in the bottom centre of the screen. Hit it at the right time and you'll score a point-boosting combo. Do it quick enough and you'll constantly better your top score.
Unfortunately that's all there is to Xival Sniper. It's hardly absorbing. Being forced to visit the sponsors site is also annoying. Without the ads, the game wouldn't be free, but that doesn't stop it being bothersome. And once you realise you can repeatedly tap the shoot button and still better your score the experience isn't the same. An extra game mode or two would have been welcome. At least the graphics look nice.
Overall there's a decent concept in there but the gameplay is hardly absorbing enough to keep you occupied on the train for long. An annoying user experience further adds to the frustration.
