Ovi Store Hits 3 Million Downloads a Day!

It doesn't seem like that long since the Ovi Store was created, but Nokia has just announced that it's currently getting over 3 million downloads a day. Read on after the jump to find out more...

As soon as you get your new Nokia handset, it's worth heading off to the Ovi Store to see what goodies you can find. From mapping apps, to games, to battery monitoring apps, there really is something for everyone.

This versatility is reflected in the current amount of interest in the Ovi Store. Even though you can download apps from elsewhere for your Symbian-based Nokia, the Ovi Store has now hit the 3 million downloads per day mark.

Nokia N8 and Nokia C7: Swype Review

Other figures released by Nokia are just as impressive, such as the 165 million-plus people that use the Ovi Store. According to Nokia, new users are also growing at a rate of 250,000 per day, and 90 per cent of visits to the store results in at least one download.

What does all this mean for you? Well, the more people that use the Ovi Store, the more interest developers are going to take. Which means you'll be able to download better and better apps. Which in turn will draw in more customers, and the whole thing continues to get bigger and better.

Our current favourite apps for Symbian ^3 include Swype – a must have if you own a Nokia N8 or Nokia C7, and Angry Birds.

We'd like to know what your favourite apps are. Leave a comment below and let us know what you think.

Hi, thank you for pointing out the timeline here…if you’ll recall we launched the Ovi Store only 18 months ago so it’s come a long way. New improvements like endless scrolling, faster search, better UI and superstar content and apps are helping drive traction.

We have 1.2 billion consumers and our goal is to make every phone “smart” with locally-relevant apps and content. While our competitors have experienced rapid growth, we have a global footprint of consumers who have the opportunity to take advantage Ovi, which includes free navigation, apps, entertainment and communications capabilities. All of these will be delivered in an integrated, seamless experience that teams are working on now.

    Stay tuned! More to come.

My current favourites are Grid Touch by Offscreen – a great finder and launcher, Here and Now and Yell for finding pubs, eateries and cinemas, Absolute radio – for internet radio with multiple stations and genres, Sports Tracker – GPS activity tracker and moodagent – creates a playlist based on your mood.

And that’s before I even think about the games!

Not so keen on Swpe though. It would be OK for portrait but is a bit pointless for landscape unless I’m doing something wrong.
