Symbian ^3 offers lots of benefits and changes over Symbian S60 5th Edition, and one of them is multi-tasking. Although it was possible to multi-task on older Nokia handsets, Nokia has worked on the interface, making it easier than ever.

Once you've opened up an application using your Nokia N8, it's possible to open plenty more without closing the original app.

Simply press and hold down the menu button (the hardware button at the bottom left of your Nokia N8), and you'll be met with a task manager.

If you want to open another app, or go back to your home screen, simply click on the menu thumbnail. From here, either select the next app you want to open, or click exit to go back to your homescreen.

The original app will still be running in the background – so if you're viewing a web page, for instance, it'll still be there without the need to reload. To go back to it, press and hold the menu key again, and scroll to the right or left (if you've opened other apps) until you find the app you want.

The thumbnails are all large and easy to see, making it obvious which thumbnail belongs to which app, and swiping a finger lets you easily scroll through them.

This task manager also lets you close apps. If you want to close an app without going back to it, simply scroll until the thumbnail occupies the screen, and then press the cross in the top right corner of the thumbnail. This will close the app.
