The Nokia 5800 has been a phenomenal success for Nokia. Its first touchscreen smartphone, even now two year after its launch it’s still being loved and updated by all those that own it. However, with a crop of super-new Symbian^3 smartphones on offer, isn’t now the perfect time to upgrade? This is why we’re pitching the question: Nokia C7-00 or Nokia C6-01, which is your new Nokia 5800?

If you’re in the market for a mainstream candybar smartphone and don’t want the high-end gloss that is the Nokia N8, then we reckon the current choice of either the Nokia C7 or Nokia C6-01 will certainly serve you well.

The Nokia C6-01 may well be the most obvious choice as it shares the same 3.2-inch screen size as the Nokia 5800. However, you will find the Nokia C6-01 has the clear edge. Not only is it the first Nokia smartphone to use Nokia’s stunning new ClearBlack display technology, the AMOLED and capacitive screen is ideal for those who put emphasis on image quality and brightness without impacting on battery life.

When it comes to processing power, you’ll find the 434MHz chip found in the original Nokia 5800 has been upgraded to a 680MHz, ARM 11 chip in both the Nokia C7 and the Nokia C6-01, so you’ll find that apps load quicker than ever and switching between open apps a doddle.

Storage has also been beefed up on the Nokia C6-01, as you’ll now find 340MB of user memory free on the device and support for 32GB of storage using a microSD card, so storing all you music and videos has never been easier.

However, the big news has to be the use of an 8-Megapixel CCD camera on both the Nokia C6-01 and the Nokia C7, putting the one-time neat and trim 3.2-Megapixel camera of the Nokia 5800 into the history files.

If you think upgrading is all about packing the most power into your hand then the Nokia C7-00 may well be the smartphone for you. As we said, you get the 8-Megapixel camera, but to make the most of it the screen size has been beefed up to a nice 3.5-inch AMOLED screen with full capacitive touch control.

The Nokia C7-00 also comes with 8GB of mass storage, along with support for 32GB microSD memory cards. With all the usual tech, such as Wi-Fi, GPS and Bluetooth, tucked away inside this Nokia smartphone, this is one indulgence you may not be able to deny yourself this holiday season.

    for me its Nokia C7, its nearly a Nokia N8 minus the camera.
    although C6-01 is also good with its industry leading CBD screen tech.
    Both are priced almost similarly so its screen size vs screen tech.
    i’ve bought myself a C7-00, and not a single bit embarassed!

    The C6-01 is the best upgrade from a 5800.Compact size and raw power( when thinking about the size of this phone).

    The C6-01 is certainly a better phone than the 5800XM. However, consider a 5800XM modified with custom firmware ported from the C6-00. Said CFW would provide homescreen widgets, a slightly faster CPU clock, full kinetics, better camera software, and more free RAM and NAND than a stock 5800. Now consider the venerable 5800XM also has superb stereo speakers, a Carl Zeiss camera with Auto Focus (business card reading, 1D/2D barcode reading) and a larger battery (1230 MAh). All of this in a light 109 gram candybar package. Sure…it’s not going to offer the same User Experience as a much newer C6-01…but the 5800XM is still doing well after 2 years…IMHO.
