The Nokia E7 is set to be the first major Nokia smartphone of 2011 as the news comes through that operator 3 will be carrying the Nokia E7 in January. The QWERTY messenger takes its design cues from the Nokia N8 but is very much its own device. Read on to find out about the Nokia E7 being available in January...

The Nokia E7 is the first 4-inch smartphone to be launched by Nokia and is aimed at those who need not only a big screen but also want a full QWERTY keyboard. Powered by the Symbian^3 operating system, this true messenger device is set to be the device every businessman or heavy social media user will want.

The 4-inch screen of the Nokia E7 comes with ClearBlack technology, so the AMOLED display can be used in all conditions and cast no reflections. You'll also find a 8-Megapixel camera on-board, along with GPS, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

The Nokia E7 has been outed by phone operator 3 as their big device for January and while no pricing has been quoted, Sylvia Chind, who happens to be Head of Branded Devices over at 3, said: 'We’re pleased to be adding another Symbian 3 device to our smartphone range. The Nokia E7 makes the most of our strong 3G network showcasing features such as email, huge 4 inch screen for fast browsing and customizable home screens.'

I’m incredibly excited about this phone and hope 3 avoid their usual mistake of offering excellent deals to new customers whilst failing to look after existing customers who are due an upgrade (as they did with both the W585 and Satio). If available for £30 p/m, sign me up!

I’m pretty sure 3 never gets Nokia devices first. If it’s on 3 in January, it’s available before January through other channels.

Bu Hu, that is too late for me… guess I’ll be moving on to Android after all…

We’re pretty sure 3 just wanted to be out of the gate first – most telcos will be carrying the Nokia E7 and why not, it’s going to be a cracking device for anyone looking for a big screen and QWERTY keyboard!

Great news, Nokia is delaying the launch of the E7 to make it even better!

Now some of you might think this is bad news, but it isn’t! It’s truly wonderful that Nokia is sacrificing the biggest sales slot of the year to make the E7 experience even better.

That’s how much they care. All those clients with back-logged pre-orders will be so grateful.

    Rejoice!

    Woo Hoo! Nokia Rocks!

@0batman No, while it doeslook VERY similar, the N9 is a far superior device by all romoured accounts with hardware spect to dwarf the current models out. The N9 is supposed to be the true successor to the flagslip lemon that is (my) N97, whereas the N8 is a definite camera phone, and the E7a communicator/business phone. This s the latest specs rumor I’ve found for the N9, but I can’t comment on it’s accuracy of course: http://t.co/rZGat6y
