Along with having the best hardware on the market, the Nokia N8 also supports loads of great apps. Finding the best can be a tricky business, however, so join us after the cut where we'll be looking at the best 10 free Nokia N8 apps...

Swype

We recommend that Swype is one of the first apps you download for your Nokia N8. It takes a little getting used to, but once you do it's likely you won't want to go back. Text in ease, comfort and at speed.

Sports Tracker

Into keeping fit? Then check out Sports Tracker – it's perfect for monitoring your daily routine. Keep track of calories, distance calculators, step counts – you can even monitor your heart beat if you use a compatible HR belt.

Nokia Situations

Another frankly brilliant app for the Nokia N8. You can set up any amount of situations for your handset – launching apps at set times or on week days, setting particular web pages to launch when you're in range of a Wi-Fi network, or switching profiles to save battery life when you're asleep.

Joikuspot Light

Joikuspot Light has long been one of our favourite apps, offering an easy way to create a Wi-Fi network. Use your Nokia N8 as a wireless modem, connecting your laptop to the internet without the need for cables or plug-in USB keys.

Trainline Tickets

The ideal app for frequent travellers, Trainline Tickets does exactly what it says on the tin. It works in conjunction with thetrainline.com, letting you check times, buy tickets and work out routes.

Rollercoaster Extreme

Seen the Barclaycard advert with the rollercoaster? Now you can ride it, thanks to your Nokia N8. Tilt the phone left and right, grab energisers for extra speed, and enjoy stunning graphics on the go.

Opera Mobile 10.1

One of the first apps we downloaded on our Nokia N8 was Opera Mobile 10.1, and it's the perfect accompaniment to Nokia's own web browser. From tabbed browsing, to multiple home pages, to fast browsing times, Opera Mobile has it all.

EA Sports Fifa 10

Fifa 10 is a huge name in the football gaming market, and surprisingly enough it's actually completely free on the Ovi Store. Grab yourself a fun, action-packed and addictive game.

Air Hockey

Another fantastic game – Air Hockey does away with overly complicated graphics, offering Pong-like addictiveness as its selling point instead. If you've got time to waste, this is a great way of wasting it!

Nokia Battery Monitor

A useful app for keeping an eye on exactly what your Nokia N8 is up to – you'll be able to track what you've been doing, and Battery Monitor can also calculate roughly how much time you'll have left before the battery dies.
