The Simpsons Itchy & Scratchy game from big name publisher, Electronic Arts is now available free on the Nokia Ovi Store. It's one of the most impressive, and we repeat free Ovi Store games around. Especially if you're a Simpsons fan. Read on to discover why.
Fans of The Simpsons will fondly remember an episode of the show where everyone's favourite cartoon family went on holiday to a theme park only to find it crawling with evil robot mascots. In The Simpsons Itchy & Scratchy Land your aim is to rid the theme park of the mechanical monsters in the trap and hazard filled- Itchy & Scratchy Land theme park.
Initially the controls take some getting used to, but once you do The Simpsons Itchy & Scratchy is a fun arcade game for your Nok. On a touchscreen device (we played using an N97) you hold down on the left, right, bottom and top of the screen to walk in the desired direction. It's a little stop and start but it works well enough without being a hassle.
You start off playing as Homer Simpson as he has to make his way through a perilous looking level filled with spiked traps, whirring saws and numerous obstacles. Timing is the key to avoiding a slicing. The action is mixed up with fun set-pieces such as using a bowling ball to bowl over enemies.
Eventually you get to control Bart, Lisa and Marge, each with their own abilities. Bart for example has a handy slingshot to shoot stink bombs from. The mix of gameplay means there's always a new obstacle to face and a new way to overcome them. The gameplay is as simple as it gets, and the experience is all the better for it. It's all helped by some terrific presentation. The graphics and characters look great, just like a Simpsons game should look.
If you're a fan of The Simpsons, The Simpsons Itchy & Scratchy Land Itchy is well worth a download to your Nok, even more so now that it's free. The gameplay isn't groundbreaking by any means but it's certainly a worthwhile distraction.
