Nokia N9: 5 Things We Want To See

The Nokia N9 looks set to be the next Nokia flagship, offering a state of the art OS, loads of great features and, if rumours are to be believed, a QWERTY keypad. Join us after the break to see the 5 things we'd like to see on the Nokia N9...

QWERTY keypad

It's been quite a while since the Nokia N97 Mini was released, leaving the Nokia E7 to lead the way for QWERTY touchscreen handsets. We'd also like to see a QWERTY keypad on the Nokia N9 – it offers that extra bit of usability, and as the E7 has shown, it doesn't need to add any extra bulk.

Nokia N9 Tried and Tested?

High-res screen

It would be nice to see a high-res screen on the Nokia N9, offering the best possible web browsing or movie watching experience. We'd also like to see Nokia's new ClearBlack Display (CBD) tech, offering vibrant and bright colour reproduction.

12-Megapixel camera

Although we're sure cameras will come with even higher megapixel counts in the future, we've got to the point with the Nokia N8 that its integrated snapper can genuinely match compact cameras in quality. As such, we'd like to see the same Carl Zeiss optics in the Nokia N9.

Removable storage

As a flagship device, the Nokia N9 should offer everything you'll ever need. Like the Nokia N8, it should feature a microSD slot for adding extra storage, but we'd also like to see at least 16GB – perhaps even 32GB – of integrated storage space

MeeGo

Nokia has already announced that the Nokia N8 will be the last of the high-end N-series devices to use Symbian. That means the Nokia N9 will feature MeeGo, Nokia's latest operating system.

It has 64gb storage. If it doesn’t this baby will flop….. Let’s hope it has 16gb. Idiot…. We want 64gb or else!!!!

  • Vulcan

@Yiddo: You have somehow forgotten that Nokia N8 already has a SD-card slot. You can use 32 GB cards and transfer data much faster with swapping the card than using wlan or other wireless connections. And N8 is also already capable of using USB mass storage like flash memories or similar mass storages. Just connect a 32GB or 64GB flash and it is shown as a drive. In the E7 you have the USB connector only, but that is still better than what certain popular competitor has to offer…

So I would not be worried about the amount of flash in N9. It will be big enough, likely 32 or 64 GB.

If the n8 was satisfactory, then the n9 should easily satisfy everyone with its specs. What is more of a question is the number of apps available at launch and in the following months.

I might sound cynical, but the going will be tough for early Meego adopters. I hope they leave a way open for cracked iOS apps to be brought over to MeeGo.

Thank god you were not stupid enough to say capacitive screen!

The amount of apps that will be ported to Meego (openoffice, wireshark, etc), it does not make sense to have a capacitive screen, we need the accuracy of a resistive screen!

Would be nice to have multitouch, but I’m willing to give it up for better accuracy – and to be able to use it with my gloves on!!

Resistive is really outdated, and with a capactive stylus you will be able to get the same precision as you have with a resistive screen, So it better have a nice big HD capactive screen and a good processor, I hope more than 1 ghz cause next year devices will come with better processors, give it a 1,5 ghz that\’ll do, or maybe a dual core. And nokia better make meego the shit because they really need a better OS than symbian, I currently have a N900 and well I\’m really satisfied with the OS so if MeeGo has all that Maemo has to offer and even more and lot\’s of decent apps. Than Nokia Finally has made a mindblowing High-End device like they did with the N95 in it\’s time.

For nokia to make a comeback, it requires not only the support of diehard fans. Up to date features plus existing ones on the n8 must be present. New ones for 2011 would include dual core 1ghz processor, full hd recording, wireless tethering, full flash support, hi-res screen. More competitive edge would be given by Carl zeiss optics, USB otg, ovi maps…

One more thing which i want to see in new nokia n9 is the removable and changeable battery, why nokia changed their battery romovable custom is not clear to me ………..
I think that battery should be changeable.

  • vPuik

That just about sums it up.
The 2 things I miss on my N8 is physical keyboard and high res screen. I still keep thinking about my N900, but the otterbox case makes a it pain to swap sim cards.

I would be very happy to have a camera, being 8 or 12mp, that makes pictures which don\’t have much noise when the lighting conditions are not optimal and which reacts fast.

So I think, we want the E7 with the camera specs of N8 and Meego as OS. Right? That shouldn’t be impossible but somehow I know it’s too good to be true. I think that would be killer but it seems that no company ever uses their “best” phone with Xenon, I have no idea why… I’ve never experience any kind of problem with my ericsson k800i or K850i or w800 with xenon plug-in ( Nokia would make ridiculus sales if they made that) . I totally agree with everyone else, qwerty is the way to go , no compromise, at least really good Carl Zeiss like we’ve been getting on other decent phones, and Meego because of the whole new linux thing going since Android is so popular. Android is the most popular mobile OS in the united states. I really like it but I feel it’s still not as powerful as my N900 Maemo 5. If I got an N900 with Xenon and (CBD) I will love Nokia forever. Oh yea, Meego requires multi touch on the display which is why N900 won’t have official port of Meego only community based.

http://www.zhezhe.info/nokia-meego.html ill just leave this here translate into english dunno if its true but looks legit. BTW on new google type in Nokia n9 and go down to slandered view and click on translated foreign pages and add chinese as a language you will be surprosed how much about the device you will uncover :)

I seriously hope Nokia don’t add a physical keyboard with a large touch screen. There’s no point, look at most top Android phones, the touch screen keyboard is so good with the intelligent text prediction, it’s a similar thing with iOS but to a lesser extent, there isn’t any need for a seperate keyboard for large touch screen phones. It just adds unnecessary bulk to the device, Nokia need to do some major work to their software for text and email, right now it’s total bottom rate, texting and email on my N8 is not in the same class as Android, or even iOS. I hope Nokia do sort out the software, but somehow I doubt it, Google are so far ahead in terms of software it makes me want to cry lol
