The Nokia C5 is another one of those Nokia smartphones that started 2010 with one design but quickly morphed into something else by the end. So, whether you’re looking for a neat Nokia C5 candybar phone or the more touchie-feelie Nokia C5-03, we have the phone for you. Check out our Nokia C5-03 in review and find out why it may be the smartphone for you.
The Nokia C5 first came to our attention back in February when it was leaked onto the web. Back then there was no official C Series, so it was pretty much guess work that it would actually be called the Nokia C5. In many respects it takes the look of the Nokia 6700 Classic and brings it bang up to date. The Nokia C5 is a compact and attractive smartphone, featuring a 2.2-inch screen. This helps to keep the dimensions small, and the design is boosted by a chrome bezel that runs around the edges of the handset.
Nokia introduced its new naming convention in March, which was a move to streamline and simplify the naming process of Nokia devices. Nokia C Series, X Series, E Series and N Series were the four categories and while we knew of the N Series and E Series, the C Series and X Series were new kids on the block.
To help clarify the new series, the Nokia C5 was announced. With the series being considered the ‘core series’ for mainstream and everyday users. The typical user needs a phone first and a smartphone second, so call clarity is key with these devices.
The Nokia C5 has a 2.2-inch screen with a resolution of 240 x 320 pixel. The Homescreen can have your three favourite contacts sat right there, while the inclusion of Facebook means you can stay up-to-date with all things social right from the Homescreen.
We managed to get our hands on the Nokia C5 in June of this year, finding that ‘Nokia hasn’t taken any real chances with the hardware, as the styling feels like a refined version of the Nokia 6700 classic. However, it is a cracking little phone but with a solid build quality and sufficient features to appeal to anyone looking for an affordable and dependable smartphone.’
Little did we know this wouldn’t be the last time we say the Nokia C5 name used in 2010, when the Nokia C5-03 emerged in October with a curvy styling reminiscent of the Nokia C6.
The Nokia C5-03 is available in a range of different colours and comes with a touchscreen display, measuring in at 3.2 inches, and Symbian ^1 operating system – otherwise known as Symbian S60 5th Edition. Aimed very much at the entry-level user, the Nokia C5-03 comes with some great features, including 5-megapixel camera with 4X digital zoom (no flash) and 40MB of internal memory, which can be upped to 16GB using a MicroSD card.
With a list price of 170 Euros, we reckon the Nokia C5-03 will make a great update for anyone looking to upgrade their Nokia 5230 or similar entry-level touchscreen smartphone. After all, you’ll get a host of new tech but in a format you’re familiar with.
