Ovi Store Game: Russian Fishing Lite Review

Russian Fishing Lite is the latest game to offer fishing on the move. Unlike other games, it doesn't take advantage of the accelerometer in your Nokia, so you'll have to use onscreen buttons to reel in your fishy friends. To find out if Russian Fishing Lite is any good, join us after the cut for our review...

Fishing has proved a surprisingly popular genre when it comes to gaming of late, with accelerometers allowing you to cast and throw the line, and reel in your fish without the need to press a load of different buttons. Unfortunately,  Russian Fishing Lite isn't such a game, offering a host of different onscreen controls.

With Russian Fishing Lite, you must first choose your fishing location, opting for the area you think will be filled with the most fish.

Tap different areas of the screen to move your fishing rod along the boat, and you can also raise and lower it using a similar method. You'll need to tap the 'Rod' button to cast your line, but it's completely devoid of an interactive feel.

It's a shame there's no use of the sensors – with the need to keep tapping the screen completely ruining the action. Moving the rod by tapping it lacks a lifelike feel, and it's also surprisingly difficult to actually reel in fish using the onscreen reel.

Russian Fishing Lite does look good, with attractive and well rendered graphics, but it sadly lacks that something special to make it one of the better games on the Ovi Store.
