The Nokia N9 rumour mill is starting to warm up ahead of next month’s Mobile World Congress with the latest rumour suggesting the Nokia N9 will be the first Nokia smartphone to be powered by an Intel CPU. Read on to find out why the Nokia N9 ditches ARM for Intel CPU after the jump…

The Nokia N9 is expected to be Nokia’s first foray into MeeGo and the latest rumour is that it will be powered by an Intel Atom 1.2GHz CPU, effectively making this the fastest smartphone in the world, and certainly in the Nokia range.

Nokia N9: Five Things we Want to See

The rumour started with Finnish website prosessori and seems to be gathering some traction, especially with the build up to Mobile World Congress only a matter of weeks away. Nothing else is known about the hardware of the Nokia N9 for definite, regardless of the number of ‘supposed’ leaks out there. Will it even look like the sample thought to have been a tried and tested Nokia N9?

Nokia didn’t have an exhibition stand at Mobile World Congress last year but that didn’t stop them from announcing the launch of the MeeGo platform with Intel. Mark Guim from the respected The Nokia Blog has suggested Nokia may well do the same this year, using Mobile World Congress 2011 to launch the Nokia N9.

Now, it’s worth bearing in mind that MeeGo won’t be ready until May at the earliest and expects expect hardware won’t appear until three months after that date, so Mobile World Congress seems a bit of a stretch.

Nokia took some pretty heavy flak last year for announcing the hardware for the Nokia N8 too soon, so would they really fall into the same trap again with the Nokia N9?

What do you think, will the Nokia N9 finally make its first public appearance, with Mobile World Congress 2011 as the perfect platform? Or will Nokia wait until closer to launch date before unwrapping the Nokia N9? Let us know what you think in the Comments below.

imo they will announce N9, simply because X7 and E6 announcements wouldn’t be enough to convince stockholders. Also, i doubt there will be Intel CPU, TI OMAP3 (or TI OMAP4) + Broadcom VideoCore IV is more likely.
