Nokia C7 Controlled Life-Sized Remote Controlled Car!

We've seen some incredible feats using older Nokia devices – including pole dancing robots controlled by the Nokia N900, but the Nokia C7 looks like topping the list with a remote controlled car. Not any remote controlled car, either, but a full-sized BMW, controlled entirely by Nokia's new Symbian ^3 handset. Join us after the break to find out more...

Last week it was an amazing transforming house, packed into a single room and controlled by Nokia N8, this week it's the turn of the Nokia C7. It appears that there's nothing these smartphones can't handle, with clever hackers turning their attention to a BMW and Nokia's latest handset.

For us, finding somewhere suitable to run a 1/10 scale radio controlled car is problem enough, but it seems that some people don't share our concerns.  With no such worries, a hacker called Jiaxuan and his mate set to work on software to control a proper car using the Nokia C7.

After creating the software for the Nokia C7's Symbian ^3 operating system, Jiaxuan set to work on chasing the dog with a regular remote control car – an impressive feat in itself.  The dynamic duo then fitted some servos and other tech wizardry to control the BMW 1 Series' pedals and steering.

With all good to go, the pair took their new (and very expensive!) toy out to an empty carpark, driving around in circles and reaching some scary – if anything went wrong – speeds. It's worth watching the video for the car parking attendant/policeman's reaction alone, as soon as he discovers there's actually nobody in the car he's chasing!
