Nokia C6-01: How To Set Up And Edit Multiple Home Screens
If you’ve managed to get hold of a Nokia C6-01 – Nokia’s latest mid-range Symbian ^3 handset – you may be wondering how to get the best out of it. There are multiple home screens, for a start – join us after the break to find out how to set them up…
The inclusion of multiple home screens is one of the most notable differences between Symbian ^3 and its ancestor – Symbian S60 5th Edition. With three different home screens, you’ll be able to launch all your favourite apps or bookmarks at the touch of a button.
It’s easy to manage the multiple home screens, too. You can set up any kind of shortcut for these different home screens – from icons to launching apps, to shortcuts and bookmarks to the internet. There are also loads of widgets available for the Nokia C6-01, letting you carry out social networking, stream video clips and much more.
To get started, either tap and hold down the part of the screen that you want edit, or tap Options and Edit Home Screen. As soon as you do this, the screen will become darker, and you’ll be able to move icons around and add more.
To remove an existing widget, simply tap it and then click Remove. It’s just as easy to add a replacement, or a widget to any of the other home screens. Simply tap on an empty part of the screen (indicated by a + symbol), and you’ll be taken to the Widget Catalogue.
There are loads of different widgets to choose from – if you simply want to add icons to launch apps then click on Shortcuts. Once you’ve picked your widget, click Done, or add another. To choose which shortcut launches which application, tap the shortcut widget, and press Settings. Then assign the app you want.
You can do this for all three home screens – press the button in the middle at the bottom to switch between the home screens when editing. Using this method, you can assign different pages for different occasions – a work home page, for instance, or one for your social networking and gaming.
If you have any questions, either ask in our comments below, or bookmark this page . We’ll be updating it with information on how to get the best out of your Nokia C6-01 – from editing photographs, to downloading apps, to setting up home screens and menus.

Nokia C6-01: How To Update The Phonebook
The Nokia C6-01 is one of the most impressive Symbian ^3 smartphones yet – as you can see from our Nokia C6-01 unboxing article earlier today. If you’ve managed to get hold of a C6-01, you may be wondering how to update the phonebook. Join us after the break to find out…
Before you take your SIM card out of your old phone, make sure you copy all of the phone numbers and contact details to it. This will allow you to copy over all the information – even if your old phone isn’t a Nokia – to your new Nokia C6-01.
Plug in your old SIM card, and turn on the Nokia C6-01. Click on the menu button, and then press Contacts. Then press SIM numbers – you’ll be offered a large drop down menu with various different features.
Tap Copy All To Phone, and click Yes when you’re asked if you want to copy all SIM numbers to the phone memory. Your contact details will then all be swapped across to your Nokia C6-01.

Nokia C6-01: How To Change The Time And Set Up An Alarm
If you’re a recent convert to the Nokia C6-01, you’ll still be getting to grips with the Symbian ^3 operating system. Don’t worry if you’re struggling to set the time or alarm, as both are simple, and you can follow our easy guide after the break…
The clock is the first thing you’ll want to change when you get your Nokia c6-01 charged and running, as the chances are it’ll be the wrong time. This can be done in seconds, however, and is easy to do.
Your Nokia c6-01 will already have a date/time widget set up on one of the multiple home screens. Tap the little clock icon to get going.
This brings up the clock app, to change the time simply press Options, Settings and then enter the new time/date. Click on Back once you’ve done this. You can change the clock from analogue to digital by tapping the clock icon on the left side of the screen.
To set up an alarm, again you want to be running the clock app, so if it’s gone back to your home screen tap the clock widget again. Then click New Alarm. Enter the time, and if you want it repeated – every day, for instance, or just at weekends, then enter that below. You’ll be able to set as many alarms as you want – either singular ones or repeated alarms – just press New Alarm to keep adding.

Nokia C6-01: How To Change The Wallpaper
If you’ve just got hold of the new Nokia C6-01, you may be wondering how to change the wallpaper to display a photograph of your choice. Thankfully, it’s easy to do. Join us after the break to find out how to change the home screen image on your Nokia C6-01…
Setting up your Nokia C6-01 can seem like a daunting task – not because it’s difficult, but because the Symbian ^3 operating system is completely new. As such, we’re putting together the Nokia C6-01 Ultimate User Guide!
Changing the wallpaper on your Nokia C6-01 has to be one of the easiest ways to personalise your handset, and you can also have different wallpapers for each of the three home screens.
To get started, click the menu button and open your photographs folder, and pick the photograph you want to use as a background. Open it up, and click Options.
Scroll down, and tap Use Image. It’s then just a simple case of clicking Set as wallpaper. Unlike previous versions of Symbian, Symbian ^3 lets you zoom into the imagine, so you’ll be able to choose the exact bit you want to use as a background.
You can zoom by pushing your fingers closer together or further apart on the screen. Once you’re happy, tap the screen, and press Set. Close the photograph, and you’re good to go. To change the photograph on one of your other home screens, simply flick to the next screen by swiping right or left, pick your photograph, and do the same again.
If you already know which photo you want to use, and it doesn’t need editing, you can also switch pics quickly from the home screen, by pressing Options, Change Wallpaper, Image and then selecting the image you want. You won’t be able to zoom in or out if you change the image this way, however.

Nokia C6-01: How To Improve Battery Life
The Nokia C6-01 is an excellent little phone, but it would be even better if you could extend the battery life. Thankfully, you can, with a new Power Saving mode on Symbian ^3. To find out how to improve the battery life of your Nokia C6-01, join us after the cut… There are lots of ways to make Nokia smartphones last for longer – from dimming the screen to turning off Bluetooth – but you usually have to change all the settings manually.
Things have changed a lot with the Nokia C6-01 and Symbian ^3, which includes its own Power Saving Mode. Simply click in the top right corner of the home screen, then press the battery icon, and click Power Saving Mode.
This automatically dims the screen on your Nokia C6-01, along with changing the network coverage from 3G to GSM. Using a 3G connection takes up lots of power, and unless you’re browsing the internet it’s not actually required.
This should make a huge difference to the battery life of your Nokia C6-01. It’s also worth checking that both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi are turned off. You can do this using the Connectivity screen – again click the top right corner of the screen, but this time select the two arrows rather than the battery.

Nokia C6-01: How To Back Up Your Phone Book
If you’re anything like us, you’ll have loads of contacts stored on your Nokia C6-01. Some are important, some aren’t, but we wouldn’t want to lose them either way. Thankfully, it’s easy to back up your Nokia C6-01′s phonebook wirelessly using Nokia’s Ovi service. Join us after the break to find out how…
To sync your phonebook with Nokia’s Ovi service, you’ll need to set up an Ovi Account. You’ll need this for the Ovi Store anyway, and to use Nokia’s social networking widget, but once you’ve set up an account you’re good to go with all the different features.
Head over to contacts.ovi.com once you’ve set up an account. From here, you’ll be able to manage all your contact details – from adding new contacts, to editing existing ones, to deleting unwanted numbers.
It’s easy to manage all your contacts once you’ve logged in, as everything is displayed in a big simple grid – complete with photographs if you’ve already added them.
To sync the numbers from your Nokia C6-01′s phonebook to Ovi.com, the best way is to add a Sync shortcut to your home screen. Check out our Nokia C6-01 Ultimate User Guide to find out how to edit your home screen. You can also open the Sync app by clicking the Menu button, pressing Connectivity, Data Transfer and then pressing Synchronise.
Click Options and Sync Settings to adjust your username and password details. You can also adjust the settings to change what items are synced – make sure that Contacts is ticked before you start. You can set the Sync function to work automatically every month, or manually.
Once you’ve pressed Synchronise, head back to contacts.ovi.com, where you’ll see all your newly synchronised data. You can synchronise more than one Nokia handset at a time – so it’s also easy to keep multiple phonebooks up to date.

Nokia C6-01: How To Copy Your Ringtone Using Bluetooth
If you want to add new ringtones or songs to your Nokia C6-01, it’s easy to swap them wirelessly from your old phone. You can do this using Bluetooth. To find out how to transfer ringtones to your Nokia C6-01 using Bluetooth, join us after the cut…
Transferring ringtones is an easy thing to do, as long as you know what you’re doing. To start with, make sure that Bluetooth is activated on both your old phone and your Nokia C6-01. Once Bluetooth is turned on, make sure both phones are set to visible, and on your old Nokia go to Paired Devices.

To make sure you have the right device, you’ll be shown a code on each handset – simply check it’s the same, and then click Yes.
Then go to the File Manager on your Nokia – if you haven’t added it as a shortcut then you should be able to find it under Menu, Applications, Office and File Manager. Find the music file you want to send as your ring tone – ours was stored on our memory card – and then click and hold it if your phone is a touchscreen model.
You’ll then be able to press Send, Via Bluetooth, and choose the Nokia C6-01 from the list of recipients. The file will then be transferred automatically. If your old Nokia isn’t a touchscreen, click Options, Mark/unmark, and then Send.
Once the file has been sent, it’ll appear under the Notifications section on your Nokia C6-01′s home screen. Tap it – and it’ll come up as a conversation. Tap this, and it’ll play the song. You’ll then be able to click Options, and then Set as Ringtone.
