Nokia, and CEO Stephen Elop, has been talking on the opening day of Mobile World Congress in Barcelona about the stunning alliance of Nokia hardware and Microsoft Windows Phone os. However, that's not the whole story as he's been talking about what he sees as 'the next disruption. Find out all the future of Nokia smartphones after jump...

Stephen Elop has been answering questions at the Mobile World Congress conference call and one that caught our eye was one that many seem to be asking: The possibility of Microsoft buying Nokia. It seems this is hardly on the cards, as Elop says 'you have to respect that there is a huge chunk of the Nokia business that is not in the sphere of Microsoft'.

Elop goes on to state that Nokia has three areas of business, the high-end smartphone arena in which Microsoft is now a partner and where we'll see Nokia Microsoft Smartphones. At the low end there is the 'Next Billion Devices' strategy about delivering internet services and low-cost tech into the emerging markets.

Then there is the middle ground, which he refers to as 'The Next Disruption', or 'what comes next, the future devices and user experiences'. While Nokia and Microsoft have a shared interest in the high-end devices market, they don't play in the low- or mid-range and this is where Nokia will be creating the greatest innovation.

He doesn't elaborate on what this entails, whether this is where he sees Symbian lying, where QT developers can make the most impact but it makes for an interesting talking point.
