Music Cube Review For Nokia Smartphones

Fancy a rhythm-based game for your Nokia handset? Music Cube, available on the Nokia Ovi Store is a little different from the likes of Guitar Hero. There's no guitar, for a start. But is it any good? Read our Music Cube review to discover if it was in tune with our gaming tastes.

Like other music rhythm games of its ilk, Music Cube is all about reacting in tune with the music you hear. The aim is to tap a series of coloured cubes at the precise time in order to fit in with the others on a grid. Match said cubes in order to progress. Match three and they disappear, scoring you points.

Mistime your taps and the cubes pile up until you eventually lose and have to start again. It's a neat idea but one that's been done repeatedly and better in similar Ovi Store games. We're also convinced that you're not actually tapping to the beat; you're simply tapping whenever you feel is the right moment, taking the music angle out of the gameplay equation.

The disco-like sounds are pretty decent. Presentation not so. On a Nokia X6 gameplay is presented with borders and menus surrounding it. An option to switch to full screen is provided, but it draws the action too close. The graphics are also also very basic, though the psychedelic splashes of pinks and greens do make an effort to convince you otherwise. Long load times before restarting levels also spoil the fun.

Music Cube is still a mildly playable game, but there is so much better out there, and you will get bored pretty quickly - better give this one a miss.
