The Nokia Windows Phone may have stole the show at MWC this week, and Microsoft talking updates to the Windows Phone 7 OS wasn't too shabby either, but they weren't the only things on offer. Take the NFC (Near Field Communications) demo, which allows Nokia users to get instant information at a mere touch. Check out the NFC demo on Nokia C7 and see what we mean.

The Nokia C7 comes with a small NFC (Near Field Communications) chip inside it that allows you to tap the smartphone against posters, flyers and every day POV (Points of Interest) and information all about what you're interested in will start to pop up on your Nokia C7 display.

This is all still very much in the development phase a what's needed is a killer User Interface (UI). Which is exactly what the guys at the Qt stand were showing off at MWC. The demo UI shows off a few interesting concept ideas, such as being able to rate items in a store or even pull up stuff you've shown a passing interest in before – ideal when you're in a Record Store and have one of those 'now what bands do I like!' moments!

Then there are the more mundane applications like food shopping, as NFC will be able to give you instant updates without you needing to barcode scan. It's one of those technologies that Nokia is working on that will really make life easier. Nokia has stated that NFC is set to be activated in 2011, with the technology being turned on by a firmware update for the Nokia C7. However, there has been no official word as to when this will be.
