Worms was one of the most popular games during the 90s, and its appealling graphics, addictive gameplay and simple controls make it perfect for the Nokia N8. To find out if it lives up to our expectations, join us after the cut for our Worms 2010 review...
Just like Angry Birds has taken over the gaming world, Worms was the must-have game of its day, letting you pick teams of worms – name them after your friends and family, and shoot things at them!
What can you expect from Worms 2010 on the Nokia N8, then? You'll need an internet connection, for a start, as Worms 2010 uses sponsorship rather than a purchase fee, making it more cost effective than other games on the Ovi Store.
Thankfully, the adverts only show up when you're starting levels, asking you whether you want to download specific apps.
The graphics aren't quite as impressive as we were hoping , and will no doubt look better on smaller Nokia handsets, such as the Nokia C6-01. On the Nokia N8, the 3.5-inch screen makes the worms look a little lacking in detail, and the game lacks the polish found on Angry Birds games.
Gameplay itself remains exactly the same as the 90s versions of Worms – shoot bazookas, guns, punch, throw hand grenades, most of the old tricks seem present and correct, although we've not spotted banana bombs or sheep yet!
From the menu, you can select quick play to get going, or custom levels to offer a more detailed selection – including who you play against and the types of land you play on.
Overall, Worms 2010 is still worth having on your phone, but it lacks some of the magic of the original. The graphics are lacking in detail – and on a phone like the Nokia N8 it's really apparent. We were also hoping that Electronic Arts would have brought the game up to date to go head to head with Angry Birds – as it stands Worms 2010 feels a bit too stuck in the past.
