Back at the end of last year, we compared two of Nokia's brand new smartphones – the Nokia N8 and the Nokia C7. We asked you for your opinions on the new handsets, and we've since had tens of comments on which you guys prefer. Join us after the cut to find out more...
Although the Nokia N8 and the Nokia C7 both feature a Symbian ^3 operating system, they're very different devices. The Nokia C7 is incredibly slim and stylish, while the Nokia N8 currently sits at the top of the range, and is packed with features. Which do you prefer, however?
Reader Snaxmuppet points out that he (or she) is “having real difficulty with deciding which one to get”. Snaxmuppet points out “I want the camera off the N8, but prefer the more candybar style of the C7, along with the removable battery and call/kill buttons”. It seems like the Nokia N8 wins the day with that particular reader, however: “In my opinion, the N8 is better value for money with the 12-Megapixel camera with Xenon flash and more in the box.”
AT33 prefers the Nokia C7, stating: “I would go for the C7 because its thinner and better looking and has pretty much everything the N8 has except the camera, who cares about that, 8 megapixels are enough.”
While that's often the case in terms of megapixel counts, this particular reviewer prefers the camera on the Nokia N8 – as it offers a much closer macro mode, and it's possible to take photographs with better details. Consider your options carefully, then, and think about what you'll be using your handset for.
Josef points out: “I had Nokia N8 for about 4 days, and I returned it to the seller (2 week no-fee guarantee). The camera works well outside or inside with very good light conditions but when you film in a darker environment the video quality is extremely poor. As the N8 does not have a LED video light, you cannot get it to film better.”
Josef goes on to say: “So i changed to the Nokia C7, it's cheaper and it has a LED light that can be switched on during filming, it has a flash too (not xenon as N8, but it works great too). So the only thing am missing on Nokia C7 is the HDMI ports.”
GrandSmurf also stands up for the Nokia C7, pointing out that the Nokia C7 also has NFC (Near Field Communication) technology built in, which the Nokia N8 misses out on.
All-in-all, then, it's looking very good for the Nokia C7. As mentioned, however, it's definitely worth considering what you'll be using the handset for most. If photography is high on your list, along with integrated storage or a tougher build quality, we still think the Nokia N8 is the phone to go for. The Nokia C7 counters with more contemporary styling, a thinner casing and a cheaper price.
