The Nokia 5800 has been retired from active service. After over two years on the front of smartphone fashion and with well over 15 million handset sales, we knew it had to happen sooner or later. That’s right, Nokia is no longer selling the Nokia 5800. Read on to find out more about the Nokia 5800 being retired from service.

Everyone loves the Nokia 5800, the solid design that feels like it survive an all-out assault, to the 3.2-inch touchscreen and knock-out stamina. However, even the most ardent love affair must come to an end. Just ask Charlie Sheen, he’ll tell you it’s hard to give anything up, especially when you're living with two of them!

How do we know it’s no longer on sale? Well, we’ve been having a poke around the Nokia Online store and noticed that the Nokia 5800 is simply no longer mixing among the other offerings. That’s right; it looks like the old-timer has been stepped down from active service, but what a solid trooper it’s been.

Upgrade your Nokia 5800to a Nokia C5-03

We put a quick call in to Nokia HQ and they confirmed they were no longer going to send the brave little Nokia 5800 out there anymore. Like all great veterans the Nokia 5800 has passed on the torch of truth to some fresher faced and spunkier kids, keen to get out there and show the world how great it is to be a Nokia smartphone.

In the budget corner we’ve the new Nokia C5-03, which we’ve been testing out over the last few weeks and found it bright and easy on-the-eye, while for the more heavy-duty situations, you’ll need to call in the big guns, such as the Nokia C7 and Nokia N8 packing some serious hardware, as well as the Symbian^3 operating system.

The softside of Nokia 5800xm is pretty amazing. With a dedicated audio chip, it has been one of the best Nokia music phone.

But what I didn’t want with it is its “poor” build quality. My then “brand new” Nokia 5800xm is one of those units that has LCD problem. In less than a month, the problem occurred and made the device’s screen unreadable. Also, something was wrong with the lock/unlock slide on the right side as well as the earpice.

Nokia 5800xm for me was nothing but a waste of money. I never enjoyed it, and i’m disappointed with it.

I forgot, i never thought of having the N97, the successor of 5800xm. I was in a trauma due to my 5800xm’s case.

Now i’ve got an N8, and pretty satisfied with the hardware and excellent build of the device. I wish all units were build like an N8 huh!

No sense going for the C5-03 as an upgrade to the 5800XM. The 5800 has better stereo speakers, a carl zeiss camera w/ dual LED flash (albeit only 3.2MP), and bigger battery. IMO, simply buy the Otterbox Commuter case and then flash the phone with PNHT’s C6-00 v.20 Custom Firmware for the 5800. The CFW is stable, provides homescreen widgets, better camera software, and better music software. It’s also got more free RAM and available c: drive. Just my opinion, but I see little benefit to going with the newer C5-03.

there is no good alternative for 5800 now. c5-03 has only more pixels in camera and less capable battery. x6, c6-01 and c7 cost much more and offer mainly capacitive screens with slightly improved hardware and renewed symbian. there is no mid-budget competitor for 5800. n8 will be my next phone, but i think an idea of choice of big screen and qwerty vs great camera is wrong. some people surely wanna have a full equipped business phone, and for some at first place need compact size. n8 and e7 shold come as two brothers. in this, hi-end range nokia should\’nt cutt divide customers between deserving good photos or good browsing experience. some need them both!

The 5800xm was a landmark model for Nokia. It was durable, had a great battery life and did pretty much fit one’s life instead of having your life revolve around it. About the only thing I ever wanted to get on it was a capacitive screen. Farewell and many thanks! Upgrading to the N9.
