Nokia and Microsoft isn’t the only talking point in town as Nokia and Yahoo! are finally bringing changes to the way that Ovi Mail will be delivered on your Nokia smartphone. Yahoo! will now be the exclusive provider of Nokia’s Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat services. Read on to find out more about the Nokia Ovi Mail and Yahoo! power up to your smartphone.
Nokia and Yahoo! announced back in May of last year that it would be working closely together allowing Yahoo! to power and enhance your Ovi Mail experience. Well, it seems that it will finally be happening as we received an email saying that in the coming weeks big changes will be happening.
According to the note we got, in the coming weeks we’ll be able to enjoy an easier and faster Ovi Mail website, instant messaging will be fully integrated into the mail web experience, and the ability to import your friends’ email addresses from other email services will become a reality.
Before we get the full power of the Nokia and Yahoo! partnership in Ovi Mail and Ovi Chat it seems there will be a period of transition, which means you may start getting emails in a rather odd order, as well as older emails disappearing for several days until the transition has finished. Nokia is assuring everyone that once the transition is complete all emails will be back where they belong in your Inbox.
What’s more, a confirmation will be sent to let you know the completion of the transfer has happened. If you email falls out of sync and you want to get it sorted quickly, then you can always carry out a manual refresh of your account by going into your Ovi Mail account and selecting Options > Synchronise. The manual refresh should bring your account back into sync.
There is no word on whether the other parts of the agreement, such as Nokia being the exclusive, global provider of Yahoo!’s maps and navigation services and branded as “powered by Ovi” will happen at the same time. We’ll just have to wait and see.
