The menu button on your Nokia N8 carries out a couple of different functions. As well as bringing up the menu, you can hold it down to handle multi-tasking, or you can also set it to flash when you receive notifications.

As standard, the button is set to flash when you receive a message or missed call. To change this, click the menu button, followed by Settings. Then scroll down to Notification lights. Click Notification light.

From here, you can change the amount of time that the light flashes for – from five minutes, to one hour, to blinking indefinitely until you check the notifications.

Click on Events notified to change what the lights react to. You can currently choose between Missed calls and New message – or tick both boxes. If you untick both boxes, the phone won't flash for either event.
