Despite all the recent talk of Nokia Windows Phone devices, Nokia is still going full steam ahead with flagship OS MeeGo. MeeGo also has a new boss, Sebastian Nyström – the man behind Nokia's Qt framework – and he has lots to say about the new operating system. Join us after the break to find out more...
MeeGo is the operating system that's set to appear in high-end Nokia devices. The open-source OS is the result of a partnership between Nokia and Intel, and follows on from Nokia's own innovative Maemo OS. The former chief of MeeGo – Alberto Torres – recently stepped down, so Sebastian Nyström taking over the mantle is good news.
Sebastian Nyström was a key player in Nokia's Qt framework, which lets developers easily port apps and software between Symbian ^3 and MeeGo, which bodes well for the Finnish company's new flagship operating system.
The first MeeGo-based Nokia smartphone is set to appear during this year, with rumours circulating that it'll be called the Nokia N950. On the new MeeGo OS, Sebastian Nyström commented: “We believe our upcoming device will have unique appeal to the style-conscious, connected enthusiast.”
According to Slashgear, Sebastian Nyström's role will include “keeping Nokia on track to deliver necessary software updates following launch of the product” and “working with the Linux Foundation, Intel and the wider community to plan Nokia’s future involvement in meego.com”.
