We've seen lots of cool things done with the Nokia N8, but Nokia's latest project – dubbed HD Horizons – looks like topping them all. Armed with a Nokia N8, aerial photographer Jason Hawkes takes to the sky around Britain in a helicopter – join us after the cut to find out what he has to say about shooting with the Nokia N8...

The Nokia N8 is without a doubt the best camera phone on the planet – nothing else comes close if photography is at the top of your agenda. To prove this, Nokia has hired one of the world's top aerial photographers – Jason Hawkes, a man with several books and thousands of beautiful images to his name – and travelled the country in a helicopter.

You'll be able to see some of the photographs here on NokNok soon – and with locations stretching from Manchester to the heart of Scotland, you may even be able to spot your house!

In the meantime, we've been chatting to Jason to find out his opinion on the project, the Nokia N8 and the resulting photographs.

Along with his digital SLR and bag of lenses worth thousands of pounds, we were hoping Jason would have a regular compact camera to compare the Nokia N8 to. Unfortunately, Mr Hawkes sticks almost exclusively to cameras we can only dream of affording, so it's perhaps even more remarkable that our friendly photographer was so impressed with the Nokia N8's snapper.

In comparison to cameras used in his household (thankfully his wife and children still use regular cameras, like the rest of us!), Jason told us that the Nokia N8 is “definitely as good as a compact camera”, going on to point out that “the end results are amazing”. It evidently came as a bit of a surprise – we're used to the Nokia N8's stunning quality, but according to Jason: “I didn't realise it was all going to be possible, or that we were going to get such good, clean images”.

It helps that the Nokia N8 offers different ways of taking a photograph. We were told that stability proved an issue in the helicopter, with vibrations and movement having the potential to wreck any snaps. Jason told us that instead of using the mechanical shutter button, he took to tapping the screen instead, with resulting photographs proving blur free.

Would he be happy to use the Nokia N8 photographs in his own photography portfolio, however? It would appear so, with Jason pointing out that the photographs are definitely good enough to put in books.

If you've got a Nokia N8, check back here in the next couple of days. We'll be bringing you more from Jason, including photographs, details of the locations shot and more.
