Over the past few weeks, we've been looking at ways in which Nokia can improve the Windows Phone OS. Nokia has come up with lots of innovative features in the past - including class-leading camera phones and top music services - so it definitely has a lot to offer. Join us after the cut, where we'll be looking at the best features on offer...
From camera phones like the Nokia N8, to music handsets such as the Nokia 5800 Xpress Music, Nokia has a track record of producing popular smartphones. If it can introduce some of its more popular features into the Windows Phone OS, we think the future looks bright for Nokia.
In the Nokia N8, Nokia has produced one of the toughest smartphones on the market. In our Nokia Windows Phone: Design and Features article, we stated:
"Where lots of rivals make their phones out of plastic, Nokia has led the way with the Nokia N8, producing one of the toughest handsets we’ve ever seen. The casing is constructed out of a single piece of aluminium, which is anodised to add an extra layer of robustness. If Nokia engineers this same level of quality into its Windows Phone devices, it’s onto a winner."
In one of our first Nokia Windows Phone pieces, we pointed out Nokia's track record in the music phone industry:
“Nokia has come up with lots of innovative services in the past couple of years, with Comes With Music at the top of many peoples’ lists. Nokia also offers millions of DRM-free songs and albums through its Ovi Music store."
Nokia also has other features to offer the Windows Phone OS. In our Nokia Windows Phone: Dual-SIM Smartphone piece, we commented on how it would be great to see a dual-SIM Windows Phone handset:
“We think a dual-SIM Nokia Windows Phone handset would be a great idea, and another way that Nokia could differentiate itself from its Windows Phone rivals.”
It was Nokia's ability to produce the best camera phone on the market that excited us the most, however, and we pointed out:
“Nokia is by far the best mobile phone manufacturer when it comes to camera phones, and one reason is the use of Carl Zeiss optics. Carl Zeiss is renowned in the world of lenses, leading to stunningly crisp and sharp image quality.”
“The Nokia N8 features the biggest camera sensor currently found on a smartphone, and as a result it can cram more details into photographs without affecting quality. If Nokia can match this technology with Windows Phone software, it could be an unbeatable package.”
Nokia can also improve the Windows Phone payment system, by implementing its micro-payment system. We commented:
“Compared to other operating systems, Windows Phone is still in its infancy, and as such doesn’t have a micro payment system in place that can rival the very best. Nokia has already proved itself in this department with the Ovi Store, and offers different ways to pay for your apps on the move.”
