We're pretty excited about the Nokia X3-02, one of the two debut Touch and Type handsets introduced by Nokia late last year. The combination of a slim traditional candybar form factor and the convenience of a 2.4in touchscreen has been one we've grown to love in the time we've been testing the Nokia X3-02.

Here we sum up those tests, covering everything from when laid eyes on the Nokia X3-02 for the very first time to testing out that resistive touchscreen, and everything in between.

Nokia X3-02 Unboxing Review

The Nokia X3-02 is proof that innovation isn't only to be found on expensive smartphones. The new Touch and Type family is already proving very popular, so we were quite excited when we finally got to crack open the familiar blue Nokia packaging and hold the Nokia X3-02 in our hands for the first time.

The danger with combining a touchscreen and a normal alpha-numeric keypad on one device is size and weight, but the Nokia X3-02 is impressively slim and doesn't weigh your pocket down at all.

The presence of the touchscreen means there's no need for navigation buttons, which keeps the front face of the Nokia X3-02 nice and clean. However, the non-traditional key arrangement – with the hash, star and 0 keys to the right of the keyset rather than below it – takes quite a bit of getting used to.

As for the resistive touchscreen, you'll find yourself relying on it more and more, which is a testament to the Nokia X3-02's versatility and ease of use. And for what is ultimately an entry-level device, we're impressed to see a 5-megapixel camera on board, along with Wi-Fi.

Nokia X3-02 Review: Touchscreen and Navigation

It's testament to how well the Touch and Type concept works on the Nokia X3-02 that going back to a traditional feature phone candybar feels alien once you've become used to being able to tap the screen.

Being a resistive panel, it's not as fluid as capacitive panels like that seen on the Nokia N8, but it does come with the bonus that you can use it with gloves on.

The ability to combine on-screen scrolling with physical button presses comes into its own when browsing the web, which is nothing but a pleasure on the Nokia X3-02.

Nokia X3-02 InvisibleSHIELD Screen Protector Review

That resistive touchscreen is the Nokia X3-02's biggest asset, so you'll want to keep it well protected. And when it comes to protection, you won't do better than the US military-developed InvisibleSHIELD. The spray-on application solution keeps you from getting sticky fingers and also makes it simple to remove bubbles once the InvisibleSHIELD is applied, which is a massive plus.

Once it's in place, it does its job and you'll just about forget it's there, which is about the warmest praise you can give any screen protector.
