The Nokia C1-02 is pretty much as basic as a mobile phone can get. This budget little handset comes with a knock-out battery life, bright screen and enough tech to cover all the mobile phone basics. The Nokia C1-02 meets a very specific target market, in particular those on the tightest budget of all. It would be easy to dismiss the Nokia C1-02 as nothing more than a budget phone but it offers plenty to those who need basic services and the security that comes with owning a Nokia phone.

From the word go, everything about the Nokia C1-02 is about keeping that price point down. As we mentioned in our Nokia C1-02 unboxing, you’ll find the packaging is minimal, with even the box itself being small. Inside you’ll find the phone, use manual and phone charger and that’s you lot.
The Nokia C1-02 itself is a nice and trim little candybar phone that uses the Nokia Series 40 OS, so you’ll find a quite plain Homepage that offers up little more than time, date and connected status. Tap on the menu button and you’ll be presented with nine options, ranging from Internet, Music and Messaging, to Applications, Games and Settings. So, in many respects it has everything you need to get connected and go mobile.
The Nokia C1-02 weighs in at 77.5g and measures 108 x 45 x 13.8mm. The black plastic used is stick and solid and this phone can certainly stand up to being dropped and treated a little rougher than your average handset. Even the backplate is thicker than we were expecting and sits snugly in place. Overall, we were nicely surprised at how well built the Nokia C1-02 feels.
You’ll find the SIM card slot sits under the battery pack on the back of the device. The microSD slot is a little trickier to find, as this sits snugly on the side of the Nokia C1-02. However, with support for cards up to 32GB in size, you’ll be able to store all you files and apps and still have plenty of space to use this phone as a music player.
Nokia C1-02 Hardware Review
On the front of the Nokia C1-02 you’ll find a 1.8-inch colour display with a 128 x 160-pixel resolution. Sure, images are small and less than perfectly defined. Worse still, web-browsing is a little bit of a chore but for simple tasks, such as texting and messaging is pretty quick to handle.
The keypad is the standard 12-button affair, with four rows of three backlit buttons. They are individually mounted and protrude nicely from the body of the Nokia C1-02. So much so that we found messaging easy on this device. The four-way direction button feels solid and means tapping into apps is quick and easy.
To keep costs down there isn’t a camera built into the Nokia C1-02, so on the back of the device you’ll only find the speaker. Call clarity proved sharp and clear for a budget candybar. What’s more, we’ve been more than impressed with the battery life of this phone.
It’s not without its features, as you’ll find Bluetooth on-board, as well as USB for connecting to your laptop or PC. Then there is a 3.5mm audio socket for use with an optional handsfree kit or just a pair of headphones to use with the music player.
Nokia has quote over 10 hours of talk-time for the Nokia C1-02 and so far this has seemed pretty much to be accurate, as we’ve yet to find ourselves needing to charge. We’re hoping the quoted standby time of 21 days is also in keeping, as this will make the Nokia C1-02 ideal for those long weekends away when you don’t need to take a full-blown smartphone with you.
The Nokia C1-02 isn’t going to break any land-speed records for style or cutting-edge features but this handset was never intended to compete in such markets. If you’re looking for a budget phone with a whopping battery life that is extremely easy to use, then the Nokia C1-02 is well worth checking out.
