Ever since it launched Symbian ^3 on the Nokia N8, Nokia has been working on some major updates for the new OS. The biggest of these is set to be a brand new web browser and a new portrait QWERTY keypad for the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01, and the updates are set to be shown first on the US version of the Nokia C7 – the T-Mobile Astound. Join us after the break to find out more...

Following the launch of Symbian ^3, some users have been waiting for a QWERTY keypad that works in portrait mode. Users of the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 are in for a treat, as a portrait keyboard is on its way in the near future. The keyboard will first be shown off on the T-Mobile Astound – a version of the Nokia C7 to be sold in the US.

The portrait keyboard also comes in with split screen functionality, letting you see the area you're typing in as well as the keyboard – which will come in particularly handy when entering text into web pages.

The internet is another area that the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 and other Symbian ^3 smartphones are set to improve. The T-Mobile Astound will debut a completely new web browser for Nokia, adding new features that promise to improve the experience of searching the internet. With the current browsing lacking tabbed browsing, the new browser should let Nokia take on rival browsers such as Opera Mobile, and the big screens on the latest Symbian ^3 devices are perfect for taking full advantage.

According to Nokia Conversations, the new updates will reach the rest of the Symbian ^3 range - including the Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 - following on from the launch of the T-Mobile Astound in the US. Be sure to head back here in the next few weeks for an update.
