Revolve Review for Nokia C5-03

Revolve is one of those games. You know the ones: those broadly simple puzzle games you fire up just to pass a couple of minutes and end up playing level after level like a compulsive gambler. Well, that's exactly what we've been doing on our Nokia C5-03, and you can find out our thoughts after the cut.

There's nothing at all complicated about Revolve. You've simply got to roll a ball around inside a square until it lands in a hole. Each level has a layout of internal walls you need to use to line things up, as the ball can only move in straight lines and will continue until it hits a wall or the edge of the board.

As you can imagine, each level is slightly trickier than the last, and you're given a target number of moves to complete the job to achieve 'Master' status for that level.

The moves are a simple matter of swiping a finger across the Nokia C5-03's screen in the direction you want the ball to move, which also automatically rotates the board in the direction you've chosen. It's a simple enough system, and easy to get to grips with on the Symbian S60 v5 Nokia C5-03.

To be honest we found the early levels a bit too easy, and it was only once we got to about level 20 that things started to become a little more challenging. But that's not too much of a burden, as you'll seldom spend more than a minute on each puzzle.

Once things do get serious, though, we found ourselves plotting our course carefully before making a move, as the internal walls are increasingly there to distract you and not just provide a welcome path to victory.

On these later levels we felt the absence of a single Undo option more and more frustratingly. Occasionally your thumb- or finger-swipes go awry and the screen tilts in the opposite direction you had in mind, effectively forcing you to restart the level.

On top of that, the restart and pause buttons are situated on screen just below the puzzle, which occasionally saw us tapping them by accident when swiping to make a move.

These aren't major criticisms, sure, but they can be annoying at times. On the plus side, the ads that allow Revolve to come free of charge are among the more unobtrusive we've come across, and don't affect gameplay at all.

Ultimately, Revolve is a good bit of simple fun we enjoyed spending a bit of time with on the Nokia C5-03. It's not the best example of its genre we've come across, but it is engaging – and has that all-important addictiveness factor puzzle games need to pass muster.

Hi, the Nokia C5-03 doesn’t have Flash with the camera. We’ve just checked out PDFs and while you’re able to open them it displays as one long text file with no formatting or images, so that would have to be a no. Sorry about that Nepokean
