Your Nokia N8 comes set up and ready to search for the nearest Wi-Fi network as soon as you take it out of the box. This is great for web browsing, but not so good when you're trying to conserve battery life. It's easy to turn of wireless scanning, however. As with most of the other features on your Nokia N8, you can add a wireless scanning widget to the home page, letting you access and disconnect from networks with ease. However, when you're trying to save battery life, it's better to turn off wireless scanning entirely.

To get started, tap the top right corner of the screen on your Nokia N8, and press the connectivity button (the one with the two arrows – have a look in our photo gallery below if you're unsure). From the Connectivity screen, you'll see lots of different options – tap WLAN.

As soon as you tap it, your Nokia N8 will probably search for available wireless networks. Click cancel, or wait until it's finished searching. Then press Options, and Settings. To turn wireless scanning off completely, click Never under 'Show WLAN availability', and then click Enabled under 'Power saving'.

Once you've tapped these options, you'll find your Nokia N8 spends a lot less time searching for wireless networks. The next time you want to connect to a network, simply click the wireless widget on the homescreen of your Nokia N8, and your phone will once again search for a network.
