The Nokia E7 and Nokia E5 are both great messeneger devices as they pack in some amazing tech alongside a full QWERTY keyboard. However, there are quite a few differences, both in terms of OS and styling so we thought we’d take a look at the most obvious difference: QWERTY keyboard. The Nokia E7 has landed making it the most high-end QWERTY messenger in the Nokia portfolio. It’s perfect for business as well as those who just like to have greater control over what they’re typing on Facebook or on email.

Nokia E5 QWERTY smartphone

The Nokia E5 is a great looking QWERTY messenger that builds on the success of the Nokia E72 but with a more consumer focussed look and feel. The Symbian S60 3rd Edition OS means it’s rock-solid assured to work everytime and while it has a non-touch screen, the QWERTY keyboard means messaging is a dream.

The standard shape of the Nokia E5 means the keyboard is always there and compared to that of the Nokia E7 isn’t as spacious, so you’ll find some of the keys doubling up the secondary functions. The rounded rubber keys have a great feel to them and we’ve always been impressed with how easy it is to type on the Nokia E5 but there is a definite knack to developing fast-texting thumbs! Nokia E7 QWERTY smartphone

The Nokia E7 has got everyone excited. The 4-inch screen is usable in all conditions and locations, whether indoors or out, while the slide-out keyboard means you don’t have to fiddle about with cramped keys. The touch and feel of the Nokia E7 as a whole is a joy but the keyboard has clearly had plenty of attention laid on it as the details are simply stunning. Whereas the Nokia E5 takes a little practice to grow accustomed to, with the Nokia E7 you can delve straight in and start gathering a healthy words-per-minute typing rate.

There are plenty of features that make the Nokia E7 a high-end smartphone other than just the keyboard. There is the use of the Symbian^3 operating system, as well as 8-Megapixel camera with HDMI out so you can hook it straight up to your HD TV.     E7 keyboard is hard to use one handed and with the Belle Upgrade Google’s Latitude has problems. E7 is not the major upgrade I was hoping for.

    @Joshua. We wanted to show how the E5 and E7 keyboards compare as the Nokia E5 is a really popular handset right now. Thanks for the suggestion though, we’ll do a little digging around and do a similar story with the E72 :)

    While all of the author’s data is accurate and well positioned, I question why such a low-end device like the e5 is put up against the e7. Wouldn’t it make more sense to compare the e7 with a similar tier phone such as the e72/e73 as that is more likely the platform this device will replace in the near term?
