There's nothing at all wrong with the standard Symbian^3 screen saver, but if you want your Nokia smartphone to stand out from the crowd, you might be interested in the new Nokia Sleeping Screen app – new from the folks over at Nokia Beta Labs. Join us for more details after the cut.
The Nokia Sleeping Screen is a simple app that replaces the standard screen saver on Symbian^3 devices such as the Nokia N8, Nokia E7 and Nokia C7 – but simple though it may be, that doesn't mean it's not useful.
Once you've installed the Nokia Sleeping Screen from Nokia Beta Labs, you'll have a choice of eight new screen savers, which can be accessed by navigating to Settings > Themes > Screen saver > Sleeping Screen.
Each of the eight normal screen savers offers a different visual approach to replace the analogue or digital clock screen saver you're used to seeing. But more interesting than these is a ninth option – the Sleeping Screen itself.
The idea is that when you go to sleep you might want a bedside clock, but you don't necessarily want the light from your phone's full screensaver intruding into your slumber. With the Sleeping Screen, however, that isn't a problem.
You can set it to activate at a time of your choosing, and once it does you'll see a low-res image that changes every minute, along with the time. The low-light image means not only is your sleep less likely to be disturbed, but it also means less burden on your battery life.
To try out the Nokia Sleeping Screen for yourself on your Symbian^3 Nokia, head over to Nokia Beta Labs now.
