The last time we check out the BBC iPlayer app it was for the Nokia 5800 on its 3.2-inch screen. Well, the arrival of the Nokia E7 seriously bumps up the screen count. Add to the this the move to AMOLED and ClearBlack Display (CBD) technology and suddenly colours look sharper and the contrast levels make moving pictures a joy to watch.

BBC iPlayer seems to have been streamlined since last we looked at it. No longer does it insist on loading on RealPlayer. This latest version on the Nokia E7 actually goes straight to the website and accesses the mobile version of the BBC site. That's saves the hassle of having to set up any user privileges but also means that if you've signed up to the BBC account you can use the same log-in you use on you laptop to add Recommends and the like.
The interface is easy to use and works in both Portrait and Landscape ode. Across the top of the screen you'll find TV, Radio, Favourites, Search, Channels and Categories, the same you'll find on the full fat version. Below this is a rolling screen of the current Featured programmes. On the Nokia E7 this looks great as it fills the full length of the screen. Switch to Landscape mode and you'll find the programmes move to two a row and the scrolling options head down towards Most Popular and Latest.
As BBC iPlayer on the Nokia E7 is web based you can access it using your data connection of the built-in Wi-Fi with ease. Wi-Fi proves the more effective and won't run up any costs. You choose TV shows in exactly the same way and you can choose to watch in a window or full-screen.
BBC iPlayer on the Nokia E7 looks great and we found the sound quality was impressive to. We had a few problems with shows having to buffer from time to time but while we've been using it, shows have never dropped out or ceased, which is a real bonus.
BBC iPlayer on the Nokia E7 is a great step forward for the app and makes perfect sense on the larger sized screen. Try it on your Symbian^3 device, such as the Nokia N8 or Nokia C7 and let us know how you've got on with it in the Comments below
