The Nokia X7 and the Nokia E6 sees the launch of the new Symbian Anna operating system. This is the new naming convention for the previously known Symbian^3 PR2.0 update. Nokia has stated the move has been made to made OS version updates easier to understand. Join us after the jump and find out what Symbian Anna has to offer users.
In a bid to simplify the naming convention and demystify which version of the operating system you’re using, Nokia has decided to move away from Nokia PR2.0 for its next version of the Symbian^3 operating system and given it a girl’s name instead. It is expected that future updates will now follow this convention.
But what does Symbian Anna actually offer? For starters, you’ll find that everything moves and runs a lot quicker and smoother. There are new icons and Homescreens scroll a lot nicer and you can even preview the page you’re about to move to, something that is possible on the Symbian PR 1.2 update.
Then there is the arrival of the QWERTY keyboard when in Portrait mode. We’ve checked it out and it works really well and is exactly what people have been hoping would be delivered.
Then there are little treats, designed to make life easier. So, we’ve got a faster browser, better connectivity to Microsoft Email tools and even an improved and faster Photo Gallery. Ovi Maps has a quicker and smoother search and new public transportation routes have been added. For business users you’ll find Enterprise security.
Nokia Symbian Anna is shipping as standard on the Nokia X7 and Nokia E6 and will be coming to the Nokia N8, Nokia E7, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01 in the summer of 2011.
