The Nokia N8 is all about the 12-Megapixel camera for most people, which means getting the right shot every time. Sure, the built-in Symbian software works well but if you’re after that granular level of control professionals need then you may need to turn to an app like CameraPro N8. Find out whether this snappy app lives up to its name with our  CameraPro N8 app review on Nokia N8.

CameraPro N8 is a quick download from the Nokia Ovi Store and we found it installed smoothly and easily. The interface is intended to be used in Landscape mode and is a little less than polished, placing bars down either side of the viewfinder screen as it does. This effectively cuts the viewfinder field by a third.

However, you can’t accuse CameraPro N8 of being short on features. Down the left-hand side of the Nokia N8 screen you’ll find Flash, Effects, Exposure Mode, Focus Range and Autofocus Type. Down the right-hand side there is White Balance, ISO Rating, Camera Mode and Settings. On the viewfinder itself you’ll find details such as the frame size you’re shooting at (up to 4000 x 300 pixels for the Nokia N8) as well as image quality, which is given as a percentile rating.

Having everything you need right on the screen means nothing is ever more than a click away, so if you need to respond quickly to a photo opportunity it is there waiting for you. Settings allows you to fine tune CameraPro N8 for the Nokia N8 to your heart’s content. You can choose image size, either in 4:3 or 16:9 aspect ratio for both still image and video, as well as set define the image quality.

The first time you actually take a photo you may well wonder what you’ve bought as CameraPro N8 takes longer than the built-in camera app to save images. This is because it saves shots in the background, so in theory you can carry on snapping quicker. However, the big difference is that it’s saving images in RAW JPEG format, rather than the more glossy JPEG that is setup by default. This means that image files are larger, ranging anything up to 10MB instead of the usual 2MB file sizes but it does mean that when it comes to editing on your laptop you’ll have greater control.

CameraPro N8 for the Nokia N8 isn’t for the casual photographer, who will be more than happy with the tools that come pre-loaded with the Nokia N8. However, if you’re serious about getting the most from the camera on this smartphone then we recommend you give CameraPro N8 for the Nokia N8 a try, the results are well worth the price.
